"When you are working from a home office you need to be disciplined and we do try to work standard office hours; however, in recent months with Covid-19 that has proved to be difficult, but the business comes first and we love our work; we have a wonderful staff of over 70, and that allows us to be where we are. Though home working has become the new normal for many, I have been doing it for over 20 years, so it is my normal and has been for a long time.

"We have invested a lot in recent years in Training, particularly in health and safety and more recently, in Covid-19 training for all of our staff.

"The business has seen unprecedented demand for services to comply with returning to work protocols, education protocols, and the government roadmaps.

"As a small business we have also employed the excellent services of local specialist contractors for Health & Safety and also for HR this means that the day-to-day tasks in both of these specialist fields are managed specifically and allow us more time for the business; and that has been a good decision for us.

"It is a different world that we now find ourselves in; where the focus for cleaning is for Hygiene and Health and not just for aesthetics, this has involved a mindset change for many.

"Cleaning and providing a safe work environment has come to the top of the list for facility managers and the importance of providing a safe environment for staff, students, visitors etc and compliance with protocols and a common sense approach that is knowledge- and science-based is very important in getting it right; everything that we do makes a difference and helps to reduce the risk.

"We also try to be as environmentally sound as we can; not many people would know that for almost 15 years we have been using harvested rainwater that is purified through a reverse osmosis system for all of our Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning and Window Cleaning. This really helps reduce our detergent usage and reduces our carbon footprint, which is something that we are very keen to continue to develop."

Lorraine enjoys working with her husband John, who is from Castlebar, and they each work within their own remit and skillset to combine a winning formula. Lorraine deals with administration management, finance and accounts. John is the cleaning and operations expert.

Lorraine is originally from Newcastle in the North East of England, but her parents are from Westport and Castlebar. She spent every summer and most school holidays in Mayo as a child, and so it was a very natural move to return to Ireland when their children were small 25 years ago.

Building a hedgehog home is an easy and fun weekend project that can be accomplished in under an hour. Here's what you'll need:

Method:

1. Cut out an opening on one side of your box or crate, about 30cm wide and 15cm tall. Position the box in a sheltered, quiet spot in the garden, ideally so that the cut-out entrance faces south.

2. Line the inside of the box with straw or dry grass.

3. Cover the outside or the box the 'roof' with the polyethylene sheet or plastic bag. If using the plastic bag, cut it open so that it fits over the whole of the top of the box.

4. Tuck the ends of the sheet/bag under the side of the box to prevent rain from coming in, or secure the side with stones/bricks.

5. Cover the plastic top with lots of leaves and twigs to form a mound.

6. The hedgehog home is ready. Make sure it's in a spot in the garden that won't be disturbed by children or pets; in April/May, check the house: if it's unoccupied, clear it out to prevent rats/mice from nesting there.

But over here at my school, I think the administration is doing a good job. I feel safe. I just go to work and home, work and home. I ride my bike, and thats it, really. Once Im in the house, Im in the house. The union has made sure we have PPE and what we need. They let us know whats approved, whats not. Its just reassuring.

Of the staff members still here since we reopenedthe kitchen, the securityits kind of like being snowed in. You bond. Were all weve got in terms of human contact. We talk about what weve heard, compare notes. But its just so many less students, like a ghost town. The kids are all spread out for social distancing. I hardly see anyone.

Artist Amy Broch's playful art installation in the heart of London aims to create a "joy bomb" as an antidote to tough times.

In a ground floor window at a pop-up installation opposite the famous Claridge's hotel, the brightly colored exhibit has caught the attention of locals, passers-by and those who work nearby.

Two people wearing furry animal masks stand in the window amid pink and blue toys and balloons and wave and gesticulate at passers by. Any interaction adheres to social distancing rules as Britain deals with a surge in coronavirus cases.

Broch, 38, who lost her husband to ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) in May, wanted to create "fun for fun's sake" in a time of uncertainty amid the pandemic and personal trauma.

"This is my joy bomb, it's my gift to London after this tumultuous year so far. I have also had a very tumultuous year, I recently became a widow. So corona (virus) was almost the highlight of my year, not the low point," she said.

disguise has launched new extended reality (XR) stages in its London, LA, and Hong Kong locations to provide a dedicated showcase environment for its work in XR development

Extended reality solutions specialist disguise has been discussing the launch of its recent extended reality (XR) stages in London, Los Angeles, and Hong Kong that will showcase its XR innovations and workflows.

LED display specialist ROE Visual has been working with the company on its London and LA stages, providing the large format LED display panels that are key to the immersive experiences for those on-stage. Its a pleasure to have partnered with disguise on this fantastic project, said David Morris, business development manager, UK & Ireland, at ROE Visual.

We are pleased to be at the forefront of the ever-popular technique of virtual production and its great to have a fully functioning stage in the UK. Im sure disguise and their team of experts will make a huge success of this growing technology.

The London stage, which opened in August, features technology including a ROE Visual Diamond 2.6mm curved LED wall and Black Marble 4.8mm matte finish floor; Mo-Sys StarTracker, stYpe RedSpy and Ncam Mk2 for agnostic camera tracking systems; a Blackmagic URSA camera; and a Barco E2 image processing system.

Creative studio dandelion + burdock was the first company to use the space. We felt very privileged to have been the first to come and play at the disguise London xR stage, explained Nils Porrmann, technical director at dandelion + burdock. We were very cordially received, with the appropriate safety measures in place, and our support team was amazing. We used the set-up to involve and condition our creative team to an ever more complex live production environment. We believe an all-team approach leads to better expectations management and smoother deliveries.

The Los Angeles stage opened last year and has already hosted demos and events, including a programme for SIGGRAPH 2019. The Hong Kong stage is set to open before the end of the calendar year.
