Cardi B and Offset have an $8,000 Rolls Royce car seat for their daughter – Insider – INSIDER

    - October 20, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

Last week, the internet collectively raised an eyebrow when rapper Offset shared a picture of an $8,000 Rolls Royce car seat that his daughter, Kulture Kiari, will be riding around in.

"8 thousand dollar car seat and i bet it has peanut butter and jelly on it in 1 week," he captioned the photo.

Car seats tend to cost between $70 to $600, with many options costing between $250 and $350. So some people were understandably shocked, especially given the fact that Kulture's seat didn't look much different from car seats that have price tags that are a fraction of the price.

"That's a Graco with a leather cover," one Instagram commenter wrote.

The Rolls Royce car seat isn't the first time that Kulture has been spoiled with super-expensive gifts and baby gear. When she turned two, Kulture was gifted a Birkin Bag, worth roughly $9,000.

In an Instagram Story that she also shared on Twitter, Cardi B clapped back at people who say kids only care about toys and candy.

"Yeah, kids only care about toys and candy, but the thing is that kids also go outside. You know what I'm saying? Kids go to restaurants, kids go to fancy places, celebrity kids, they go do red carpets," she said. "And if I'm fly and Daddy's fly, then so is the kid. If I'm wearing Cha-nay-nay, my kid's having the same same."

Ultimately, the brand name accessories and car seats aren't about Kulture, but about the family's image.

"It's not up to what the kids like. If it was the kids, they would be outside in diapers," Cardi said. "No. 'Cause if I was looking like a bad bi--h, expensive bi--h, and I have my kid looking like a bum bum, then y'all would be talking s--t. So I'm not mad that Daddy bought baby a Birkin. She gonna match Mommy."

No matter how much parents spend on a car seat, the key to safety is making sure the car seat is installed correctly.

"A higher price does not mean the seat is safer or easier to use," according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Children can be safe in the car no matter how expensive their car seat is.What's most important is to have a car seat that fits well with the vehicle and can be installed tightly, according to the AAP.

Since Cardi drives a custom Rolls Royce, the Rolls car seat might be the best fit for the car. But it's unlikely that it offers significantly more protection than Kulture would have in a mainstream car seat.

Price isn't necessarily indicative of a good car seat, but you want to find a seat that is easy to install. Especially if you'll be moving your child's seat between vehicles, it's good to have a car seat that you can quickly and safely install each time. But no matter what your budget, the rules of choosing a safe car seat are the same:

While having an easy-to-wipe down leather car seat might be nice, there's no need to worry if your car seat budget is much lower than Offset and Cardi B's. Like Offset said, the seat is just going to get covered in PB&J anyway.

    Project Title:

Comprehensive Watershed Management Planning for all Sub-Watershed River Basins

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians Natural Resources Department is requesting separate sealed proposals for the services of a qualified engineering firm with experience in providing comprehensive watershed management plans for the purpose of updating our current watershed plans for all sub-watershed basins. The purpose of the comprehensive watershed management planning is prioritizing watershed-based projects across the landscape throughout all sub-watershed basins. The primary objective is to develop a watershed-level planning document by which The Tribal Office of Environment and Natural Resources (OENR) and other partners can initiate future natural resource management and source water protection strategies and identify potential stream restoration activities.

The comprehensive watershed management plan will be used to guide monitoring and conservation strategies, stream restoration efforts, BMP implementation and other nonpoint source pollutant related activities occurring in all sub-watersheds throughout the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI) territory. Our objectives are to evaluate land cover and soil erodibility factors across the basin to rank sub-watershed for risks to water quality at multiple spatiotemporal scales and link land cover change over time to water quality and aquatic biota. Specifically, land cover percentages (impervious cover, agriculture activities, etc.) and landscapes features (soil types, % slope, etc.) at multiple spatial scales to categorize attributes and rank sub-watersheds from least to most susceptible to sedimentation. Additionally, landscape-level stressors within each sub-watershed will be ranked for targeting restoration activities.

This research will specifically address research to quantify effects of impervious cover, development and agricultural activities on water quality and aquatic life to identify and evaluate existing restoration activities and augment macroinvertebrate and fish recovery efforts due to non-point source pollution. Furthermore, research will be addressed by determining sediment sources and transport and elucidating hydrological and biological dynamics to promote community resilience and enhance watershed restoration and management. Site visits and field assessment opportunities will be provided to any qualified contractor upon request.

Contact Dylan Rose at (828) 736-0578 or by email at dylarose@nc-cherokee for further questions. Proposal packages should be addressed to Mr. Rose at the address above and must be received by 11:00 AM, November 9th, 2020 at which time bids will be opened in accordance with TERO procedures. Any bid received after the time and date specified shall not be considered. Please be advised that Indian Preference (TERO) regulations apply for award and execution of this contract. 10/28

Artist and his wife open gallery at their homestead near Berryville – The Winchester Star

    - October 20, 2020 by Mr HomeBuilder

BERRYVILLE Keith and Kelli Patterson have turned a guest house at their five-acre homestead on Lewisville Road into a showcase for his decorative paintings. With the COVID-19 pandemic, its been harder for artists to find venues to display their works, said Kelli Patterson. So they decided to create one of their own inside the structure, which is nearly a century old and first was used as a tack and harness room for horses. The property originally was part of Charles Preston Carrolls land holdings. Carroll sold the property to his sister, Olivia Carroll, and her husband, Hugh Nelson Ritter, in 1924. The home and carriage house were built a year later. We did a little bit of a makeover on the carriage house which later became the guest house to make it suitable for a gallery, said Kelli, who recently retired as executive director of the Long Branch Historic House and Farm near Millwood. For instance, they installed overhead beams on which lights were placed and trim moulding on which hooks were installed for paintings to hang on. Most of Keith Pattersons works currently on display in the recently-opened Cosmic Harvest Gallery are nature depictions, including mountain scenes and flowers and trees in fields. There is one of birds sitting on the edge of a birdbath in a yard, as viewed through a window. A couple of paintings feature flowers in vases on tables. Were trying to concentrate on bringing a little beauty into the world, Keith said, to counteract negativity stemming from the pandemic and antagonistic political campaigns. While he has enjoyed painting for most of his life, Keith has been doing it professionally for only about nine years. Previously a home improvement specialist, he also has written short stories and songs and was a member of a band called Primal Virtue. Natural settings across the Shenandoah Valley inspire his artistry. Theyre some of the most beautiful he has seen, and theyre constantly changing as the life cycles of flowers, trees and plants evolve, he reasons. Everyone wants a painting of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the fall depicting the different, vibrant leaf colors, said Keith, who has sold about 400 of his paintings. More and more, Keith is using acrylic house paints in his works instead of traditional paints developed for artists. I can dribble it, splatter it, mix it with water and make it do different things, he said. Sometimes when the paint absorbs into wet canvases, the back sides look more visually appealing than the front sides, he mentioned. Keith uses brushes to create special effects, such as by splattering paint, but he doesnt use traditional brush strokes in his paintings. Rather, he relies on techniques such as dipping a twig into paint and then dragging it across the canvas, as well as using parts of a four-inch-long household paint roller to apply colors. Dripping and splattering are more like what nature does, he said. Nature doesnt go in straight lines. Keith describes his artistry as trying to use abstract techniques to pull off impressionist paintings. He paints daily, both for enjoyment and to keep up with demand for his works, some of which are commissioned. Ill get in a little bit of a trance occasionally, he said, and paint for up to 16 hours, or until Kelli tells him its time to stop for the day or directs his attention elsewhere. Having become friends while attending George Mason University, Keith and Kelli became a couple about a decade ago after she provided him space on the homestead to use as an art studio. They married in 2015. Kelli keeps me alive in so many ways, Keith said, holding her hand during an interview. If it wasnt for her, he said, Id lose myself in painting. Nathan Keith Patterson III, who signs his works as NKP3, surmises that he enjoys painting because he gets inspirations that grab hold of his emotions and wont let go until he portrays them visually to share with other people. He admires many other artists, ones who lived in the past and ones alive today, both professional and amateur. Perhaps he underestimates his own talents. Sometimes I see other peoples art and it crushes my spirit, Keith said. I see how middling my talent is, to his perception. When that happens, I have to ramp up my spirit, he said. For an artist to embrace his or her inspirations, you have to have some belief (in yourself) that borders on conceit. I sort of careen between having an incredible sense of self-worth and wondering what Im doing by attempting to earn a living as an artist, he admitted, gently beating on his chest in frustration. But I couldnt be more content in life, Keith said, doing what he enjoys and spending time with a partner he adores. Ill be painting on my final day on this earth, he assumes. Im expecting that, Kelli chimes in, smiling. We look forward to the post-COVID world where we dont have to do appointments only and can open the gallery full time, and perhaps hold parties and community events there, Kelli said. For an appointment to visit Cosmic Harvest Gallery, call Keith at 571-235-5786 or Kelli at 540-431-8320. They also can be emailed at nkp3art@yahoo.com and cosmicharvestllc@yahoo.com.

Fall is all about color. Leaves are not shy about showing their golds, oranges and reds. We gravitate toward these showy displays of color. People drive to other states to witness autumns foliage.

If were willing to go to such lengths for color, what holds us back at home embracing a color thats beyond whats expected? Im referring specifically to cabinetry.

White long has been a popular cabinet color in the kitchen. It brightens the space and looks clean. Our kitchen has been on our list to update, but space and financial constraints have prevented major changes. When I suggested to my husband that we paint the kitchen cabinets white, he quickly rejected that idea. He didnt want to lose the beauty of the woods grain. Having a grandfather who had an active wood shop will do that to someone.

Some people do infuse the kitchen with color beyond the backsplashes and walls. Whether thats making the island base a shade of gray or choosing base cabinets in a navy finish, we are no longer limited to traditional stain colors. These are welcome changes, but we could go further.

Looking through Photo Galleries of local cabinetry businesses, at least half of the cabinetry shown is white or an adjacent color. Grey, espresso and black also could be found.

Black in the kitchen began trending in 2015, and not just for appliances. While it sounds like an odd choice at first, the popularity of farmhouse style begins to explain it. Depending on the value, black is just a few steps away from charcoal gray. Some have made the black pronounced, with high-gloss cabinets and gold fixtures, while others downplay it with matte finishes.

Our built-in shelves surrounding the fireplace are from an era when the casework color palette was more limited and skewed more orange. The stain color is nearly identical to the wood-paneled wall behind. It all blends together. I would love for the built-ins to make a statement.

I envision the cabinetry finished in the blue range with the wall behind a different color. I also am interested in applying a textured wallpaper that could be updated in the future. Integrated accent lighting would be a must. Until then, well have to appreciate our gray bathroom cabinetry, which was a recent update.

The kitchen is a heavily used room and gathering space for families. I can understand the reluctance to go with a bold color for a room that is often the most expensive to remodel. Media rooms, basement bars or guest rooms lend themselves more easily to non-traditional cabinetry.

The cabinetry in this home, http://www.bakesandkropp.com/project/meadow-lane-entertainment-center, is certainly non-traditional. The coral-red color surrounds the fireplace and extends to the mantel, built-in benches, crown molding and window trim. The white walls and neutral finishes put the focus on the cabinetry and dont overwhelm the room.

It takes brave people to choose aqua cabinetry, but it is available. We need designers to think beyond what is standard and suggest more daring color schemes for cabinetry. Its only after projects are photographed and pinned that a new color trend will begin. Until then, people are more likely to choose what is featured in showrooms. We certainly could open our doors to more colors.
