Playoffs on the Patios sells out in 8 Hours – Buffalo Rising

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

The Playoffs on the Patios Bills game day event on Chippewa is already a huge success. 8 hours after announcing that Chippewa would be partially closed off to traffic, for 260 Bills fans to cheer on the team together, safely outdoors, the event sold out. Chris Ring (Rec Room), who organized the undertaking with Jay Manno (SoHo), told me that he never would have thought that people would respond the ways that they did.

I cant believe how fast people signed up to be a part of this, said Ring. I probably have 800 texts and emails from people who didnt get reservations for this particular game day event. People are excited about watching the Bills together it was a huge response, and something that were ready for. Jay and I have years of experience in the entertainment and restaurant business, so we will be reaching all expectations.

Ring also told me that there were originally talks of holding this event in another part of WNY. A friend of Jays called us and mentioned the idea for an event to possibly be held in Williamsville. We asked if we could host it on Chippewa, and he was cool with that. We were lucky because the Mayor had extended summer patio licenses though May, with the thought that we might be able to have a Christmas market. But then we went to orange, and nothing happened. But we had the paperwork filed with the City, and the all of the approvals in place. All we had to do was rent the tables and chairs, and the video walls.

While Rec Room is currently closed, this event is a shining light at the end of a very long and dark tunnel. We tried the take-out angle during the pandemic, explained Ring. But we were losing money. We ended up closing. Now, with 260 people, with proper social distancing (67 tables 8 feet apart), its worth it. We can get tax revenue generated for the City, put people back to work for a little while, and 260 Bills fans who couldnt make it to the game will have something to really cheer about.

Ring is confident that everything will go according to plan on game day. If everyone behaves (and as the Bills win), we will be looking to get approval for future games.

It is interesting to note that this game day exercise on Chippewa was always one of the overarching visions for the original street closure concept, which unfolded as the pandemic took hold. This past summer, I dont think that anyone could have imagined that the Bills would be kicking so much butt, and that Chippewa would be in line for such a game day frenzy in January. Sometimes, when the stars are aligned there are many stars in this case we see greatness arise.

Once the pandemic is over, it would be amazing to see this same sort of street party held throughout the year, with even more players, for all sorts of celebratory occasions.

No matter where you find yourself this coming Saturday, be sure to take all necessary pandemic precautions. Remember to Celebrate Safely!

Bent Paddle Reopens Indoor Seating While Unveiling Heated Outdoor ‘Patio Camp’ – FOX 21 Online

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

In addition to the roughly 120 people they can safely have inside the brewery, management said the patio is a big help for those who not be ready to sit indoors yet.

DULUTH, Minn.- While reopening their indoor seating per Gov. Tim Walzs loosened restrictions Monday, Bent Paddle Brewing in Duluths Lincoln Park neighborhood also unveiled their new patio seating.

Patio Camp as they call it is a pet-friendly, heated patio covered in a tent from Frost River down the street. Heat lamps warm the 20-24 people that can sit socially distanced.

In addition to the roughly 120 people they can safely have inside the brewery, management said the patio is a big help for those who not be ready to sit indoors yet.

A lot of folks with everything thats going on are feeling safer in spaces that are outside versus inside, said Pepin Young, Director of Taproom and Retail Operations.

Having additional capacity helps a lot with cutting down on two things. One: lines outside as well as spacing and social distancing within the space, he said.

Young adds that they will continue making improvements to Patio Camp; they hope to install infrared heating to the roof and extend the deck to allow for more seating.

Investigators say house fire in Warren that killed mother, child started on back patio – WJW FOX 8 News Cleveland

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

The actual cause of the fire remains "undetermined"

    by: Nadine Grimley

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) Fire investigators say theyve pinpointed where the deadly house fire in Warren started on New Years Day.

Cassie Gray and her five-year-old son, Otto, were killed in the fire at their home on Woodland Street.

Her husband and other son, Simon, were able to make it out alive.

Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle says investigators believe it started on the exterior back side of the house on a patio next to the sunroom.

Nussle says there was a plastic tote in the area containing ashes from the fireplace and cigarette butts that were discarded during a family gathering the night before.

That is the area where the fire originated. The investigators have not ruled out that the actual cause was cigarette butts but they have not ruled that is the cause, but that is definitely the area of origin. It originated on the exterior of the house on that back patio, Nussle said.

Nussle says investigators werent able to locate any working smoke detectors in the home.

I just think this is just another painful reminder of the importance of smoke detectors. They are so important and I would recommend getting smoke detectors with lithium 10-year batteries in them instead of a 9-volt, Nussle said.

The actual cause of the fire remains undetermined.

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

    The Columbus Dispatch

A Far North Side pub has been cited by the Ohio Investigative Unit for violating state health orders for COVID-19 and for unsanitary conditions.

Slick Whiskers Pub & Patio, 12 Dillmont Dr., located in a shopping plaza off the east side of North High Street (U.S. 23) and south ofLazelle Road East, was cited Monday by OIU agents for improper conduct for violating a state COVID-19 ruleand unsanitary conditions.

Agents, who are responsible for enforcing Ohio's alcohol laws among other things, reported that at 10:15 p.m. they observed patrons consuming and purchasing alcoholic beverages at the pub in violation of the state's "last call" requirement for bars and restaurants to stop serving alcohol at 10 p.m. because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In additions, agents reported they observed "debris and insects in liquor bottles" during a subsequent inspection of the establishment.

The case against the pub, which formerly operated under the Brew-Stirs name, will go before the Ohio Liquor Control Commission for potential penalties, including fines and/or the suspension or revocation of its liquor permit.

BOCADO Bar + Diner Headed to Charlotte in Summer 2021 – FSR magazine

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

BOCADO, an acclaimed restaurant that first opened in Atlantas Westside neighborhood in 2009, is bringing its American cuisine across state borders to Charlotte, North Carolina, this summer. Named BOCADO Bar + Diner, the new restaurant will open at Atherton in the former Big Ben Pub space. In response to COVID-19, BOCADO Bar + Diner plans to follow safety measures upon opening to provide a safe dining experience, including distancing tables, requiring masks for staff and guests unless seated at a table, providing QR code menus, offering touchless curbside pick-up and outdoor seating on a patio, and more.

Described as a new Southern American bar + diner, BOCADO Bar + Diner will honor the same seasonally driven and locally sourced food menu as the Atlanta staple, with an added diner culinary approach and aesthetic. Open for brunch, lunch, happy hour, dinner and late night, guests can expect to find BOCADOs iconic Double Stack Burger (praised by Forbes, Thrillist Atlanta and Eater Atlanta) and favorites like House-Made Pasta Carbonara with smoke pork belly lardon; Roasted Chicken with stone ground grits; and Deviled Eggs with pickled okra and shallot. Brunch dishes will include Fried Kibbeh (adapted from owner Brian Lewis' grandmothers recipe) served with yolky eggs and field green salad; Avocado Toast with poached egg and pickled red onion; and French Toast Muffins with caviar cream and maple syrup. Raw Oysters, a Seafood Tower, Chilaquiles and more will be offered each day during happy hour and late night.

At the bar, elevated classic cocktails will complement the house menu. Guests will be able to enjoy a refreshing drink on the breezy patio during brunch or lunch or a boozy stirred classic to close the evening out. A broad selection of smartly organized wine and local beers on draft will round out the beverage list.

We're thrilled to be bringing Atherton our take on a neighborhood commonplace where visitors can make memories over good food and drink, and were looking forward to visiting our friends at Big Ben Pub in their new location," says owner Brian Lewis.

BOCADO Bar + Diners 2,700-square-foot interior, designed by EMC Design, will maintain the history of the structure with modern updates. Elements like heavy drapes, leather furniture and large mirrors lining the walls will convey a distinctive style in the dining room. A light-hued bartop and lounge seating along with an open kitchen will create an approachable vibe throughout the day for an enlivened dining experience. In the evening, lighting will be dimmed as the space transforms into a moody late-night lounge. Off the dining room, a large outdoor patio will feature views of the Rail Trail and include a fireplace for year-round use.

Where to Find Heated Outdoor Dining in Champaign-Urbana – chambanamoms.com

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

We know our readers are eager to support local restaurants. With help from our readers and other resources, we have put together this list of Champaign-Urbana area restaurants with heated outdoor seating.

Weve revamped this list to include igloos, greenhouses, and heated tents all very creative ways to keep everyone safe while still being able to go out to eat.

Please note, this information is subject to change without notice, just like the Illinois weather. We do our best to keep this info up-to-date, but restaurants often change course. When in doubt call ahead before you go.

Thank you for your help please email us if you know of an establishment with heated outdoor seating that we have missed, or if you can help us update any of the following information.

To combat the surge of COVID-19, the entire state of Illinois moved into Tier 3 mitigation effective November 20, 2020. No indoor service is permitted in bars or restaurants under Tier 3. When a temporary structure such as a tent is used for outdoor seating for multiple parties, at least 50% of the sides [must be] open to provide adequate air flow, and Patrons inside a temporary outdoor structure must be seated, and tables must be spaced a minimum of six feet apart, as well as other outdoor dining requirements spelled out in state Phase 4 guidelines.

Inclusion in this article does not constitute a guarantee that a restaurants outdoor seating meets current public health guidelines. Questions? Contact Champaign Urbana Public Health District.

    1. Many restaurants are now requiring reservations for igloos/cabins.Call ahead, because you dont want to be waiting too long. Weve tried to indicate which places require reservations.

    2. Look at the menu before you go, and be prepared to order. Many restaurants have their menus online, or again, call ahead. Some restaurants are offering contactless menus. Because these outdoor locations are limited, some may have time limits for tables.

    3. BYOB. In this case, bring your own (washable) blankets. Need hand warmers? Get them online in bulk.

    4. Do you tailgate? Or sit outside at football/soccer/other athletic events? Outdoor dining isnt much different. Approach your attire similarly. Wear layers if you dont want to eat in your coat, especially if you are in a tent or a greenhouse. Some of the igloos do get pretty warm.

    5. Heres our biggest tip for spending extended periods of time outside: be sure to invest in a lot of cozy headwear and footwear this winter. Warm hats and socks will be key to staying comfortable.

    6. Tip well!

Agave Mexican Restaurant, 405 S Century, Rantoul: Heated tent. See it on Facebook.

Aspen Tap House 2001 S. Neil (former Scottys Brewhouse): Heated outdoor tent with TVs in there. Watch your favorite teams.

Aroma and Cowboy Monkey, downtown Champaign: Individual greenhouses seat up to four. They are heated and have outlets for your charging needs. Coffee, studying, or lunch during the day; at night get dinner and drinks.

Big Grove Tavern, 1 E. Main St., Champaign: Big Grove Tavern has always been one of our favorite places for outdoor dining, especially when the kiddos are around. Heaters plus a fabric screen to keep out wind and moisture. Patio seating is available from Thursday through Sunday.

Billy Barooz, 2521 Village Place, Champaign: Billy Barooz has put what it calls cabins outside for outdoor dining. Reservations are recommended a least 1-2 days ahead of time for weekdays and 3 days ahead for weekends. Hold up to six people. Open for lunch and dinner.

Black Dog, downtown Champaign: Has heated seating on a screened porch (windows open, radiant heaters) in addition to a few greenhouses. In the interest of maximizing safety for our guests and staff we have recently installed new greenhouses outside as well as inside of our four-season open porch. (See it at the link). No reservations needed; first come first serve.

Bunnys Tavern, 119 W. Water St., Urbana: Bunnys has a large tent with heaters for plenty of outdoor dining. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

El Toro Loco, Urbana, 1601 N Cunningham Ave: This branch of the El Toro family has a covered patio with heaters. See it here on Facebook.

Fiesta Cafe, 216 S. 1st St., Champaign: Fiesta Cafe permanently installed heat on their patio even before the pandemic. It was quite cozy even though we were outside. Extra bonus was that our food was served piping hot! Open daily for lunch and dinner.

Guidos, Downtown Champaign: Eight greenhouses are set up on the patio. No reservations are needed and sat by first come first serve. Seat four. Open daily for lunch and dinner.

Hamilton Walkers, 201 N. Neil St., Champaign. Hamilton Walkers now has igloo dining for parties of up to six people, for dinner only from Wednesday through Sunday. Reservations are required and seatings are limited, so make sure to do it in advance. (See photo above).

Jupiters At the Crossing, 2511 Village Green Place, Champaign. Heated patio dining.

Kofusion, 1 E. Main St., Champaign. Igloos available. Weve heard they are pretty chilly, so dress warm. Call or reserve online. Open for lunch and dinner.

Nando Milano Trattoria, 204 N. Neil St., Champaign. Heated tent with limited seating available. Reservations required. Open daily for dinner only.

Pias Sports Bar and Grill, 1609 W. Springfield Ave., Champaign: Heated tent behind the building. Serving food from their menu as well as carry-out.

The Original Pancake House, 1909 W. Springfield Ave., Champaign: Youve got to see the setup at OHOP to believe it (here it is, on Facebook). Open daily for breakfast and lunch.

Seven Saints, 32 E. Chester St., Champaign:Heated greenhouses in the Seven Saints Garden seat up to 4 people each. They will be seated first come, first served. They also feature a heated tent for dining.

Sun Singer, 1115 W. Windsor Rd., Champaign: Dont be confused if you pull up to Sun Singer and dont see a heated tent. Its behind the building. Open daily for lunch and dinner, and weekends for brunch.

Watsons, downtown Champaign. Greenhouse available, with limited seating. Open 11 a.m. to 9 pm. Seats six. Reservations are required.

When indoor dining is again permitted by state and county public health, we know that many restaurants have been working to make their indoor dining rooms safer for both patrons and servers alike. Farrens and Cafe Kopi, both in downtown Champaign, have installed UV air filtration systems, and other restaurants are updating their HVAC systems to improve indoor air quality.

A heartfelt shoutout to all the establishments doing this hard work to keep us well fed and most importantly safe.

This new neighborhood eatery (the result of a complete building remodel) opened in Tacomas Westgate area in 2020. Its got something for everyone family-friendly seating in the main dining room and an adjacent stylish bar for the over-21 crowd. A garage door opens from the bar onto a cozy covered patio with a fireplace, heaters, and plenty of space where tables are arranged to keep diners (or drinkers) distanced. Like at many restaurants these days, you scan a QR code with your phone to see Coopers menu, which keeps service as contactless as possible. Stop in to sample Coopers comfort-food menu, complete with appetizers like nachos, pickle spears with house-made sauce, or tangy pulled-pork sliders. If youre in the mood for something more substantial, its marinated pub steak topped with a garlic and blue cheese compound butter or sophisticated truffle oil, brie, apple, and arugula pizza should fit the bill. Parking comes at a premium in this hood, so families with kids or anyone trying to escape the rain will be happy to see the large parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. Call to order take-out, or arrange for delivery via its website.

Report: Liverpool looking to replace Joel Matip in summer window – Rousing The Kop – Liverpool FC News

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Liverpool have been rocked by injuries this season. The Reds have been utterly devastated by the fitness issues theyve faced and Kopites have been clamouring for reinforcements to be brought in in the January transfer window. However, the club appears to be waiting until the summer. According to Melissa Reddy for The Independent, Liverpool will replace Joel Matip at the end of the season.

    We never saw this coming.

The Reds sold a centre back in the summer without replacing him.

Who couldve guessed that the invincible Virgil van Dijk would be ruled out for the season?

By mid-November we were down to just one centre back in the first team squad and he isnt the most reliable fitness wise.

Subscribe to Rousing The Kop TV now

In fact, Matip is currently ruled out with an abductor problem, leaving the Reds without a natural senior centre back in the first team.

Naturally, fans and pundits have been urging Liverpool to invest in January.

The financial reality means that the club will likely have to wait until the end of the season to strengthen.

According to The Independent, Liverpool will look to replace Joel Matip in the summer.

Melissa Reddy wrote: when Liverpool do buy a centre-back, it will be their intention that the player ultimately replaces Matip.

    This comes as no surprise.

The persistent injuries to Matip during his time at Anfield have blighted what couldve been an immense career.

He is one of the most naturally talented defenders weve seen at the club this century but he is so rarely fit.

We need a man who can play most of our league games without a problem.

We cant keep chopping and changing our centre back pairings. Bringing in a centre back to replace Joel Matip makes sense.

Have something to tell us about this article?

Brendan Hodrien is a woolyback writer, born in Birkenhead and raised by his Dads stories of Paris, Wembley and Rome. He has appeared on 90Mins YouTube as well as Channel 4s Ultimate Football Fan Show, he is still coming to terms with Liverpool selling Xabi Alonso.

Apple rumored to deliver Apple Music and Podcasts apps to Microsoft Store – AppleInsider

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

A rumor on Thursday claims Apple is developing native Apple Music and Podcasts apps for dissemination on the Microsoft Store, though it remains unclear if the company plans to replace iTunes for Windows.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, 9to5Mac reports Apple is testing Music and Podcasts apps for Microsoft platforms as part of a closed beta process. The apps could make their way to the Microsoft Store later this year.

While not revealed in the report, Apple could be working on an iTunes replacement for Windows. The once-ubiquitous and bloated media management hub was split into distinct apps and system services with the introduction of macOS Catalina, but remains intact on Microsoft's operating system.

Job listings in 2019 hinted that Apple is working on standalone media apps for Windows, a natural expansion for subscription services like Apple Music and Apple TV+. At the time, Apple was seeking engineers with Universal Windows Platform (UWP) experience. The API, introduced alongside Windows 10, allows developers to write and deploy software for use on Windows 10, Xbox One and HoloLens.

Apple most recently released Apple TV+ for Xbox consoles in November, a move that coincided with availability on Sony's latest PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

If Apple chooses to replace iTunes for Windows with standalone Apple Music and Podcasts apps, iPhone users without access to a Mac will need new means of syncing and backing up their device to a host computer. On Mac, those duties are now in the domain of Finder.
