5 throw hats in the ring for Quincy’s empty Ward 2 seat – The Patriot Ledger

    - January 27, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

    Mary Whitfill|The Patriot Ledger

QUINCYFive Ward 2 residents have expressed interest in filling the seat oflongtime City Councilor Brad Croall, who stepped down this week after almost 10 years in the position.

Anthony Andronico, vice chairof the Quincy School Committee; Richard Ash, board member of the Ward 2 Civic Association; Ken Augen, a local lawyer; Mary Jo Brogna, a nurse and a member of the Quincy College Board of Governors; and Dana Harkin, president of the Penn's Hill Neighborhood Association, have all put their names forward to fill the final year of Croall's term.

City councilors will review the candidates and make a final decision at a special council meeting Monday.

Andronico, 27, is in the final year of his first four-year term on the school committee. He is serving his first year as vice chair.

A lifelong Quincy resident, Andronico said he is excited about the prospect of representing Ward 2. He works full time as an aide to state Sen. Patrick O'Connor, R-Weymouth,and said he was raised to "step up" when opportunities to help others present themselves.

"Brad has lived up to the very high expectations of the people of Ward 2 for the last decade by listening to their concerns and advocating on their behalf at city hall," Andronico said. "The next year is very critical for the city of Quincy as we navigate this pandemic, and I think it's really important that the next person who steps into this role isable to live up to theexpectations Brad put in place."

Andronico said he would work to involve neighbors in ongoing Faxon Park improvements and the renovation of the Fore River Clubhouse, as well as work to ensure new development in Quincy benefits existing residents.

"If I get the opportunity to work on the council, I'll do what I've always done to make resources more accessible and processes more transparentto better serve the people of Quincy," he said.

Ash is an associate in the civil litigation division ofBaker, Braverman & Barbadoro, a Quincy-based law firm.

Ash, 28, is a lifelong resident of Quincy Point and is aboard member of the Ward 2 Civic Association, treasurer of the Ward 2 Democratic City Committee, vice president of Quincy Pride and a member of the Quincy Democratic Committee.

The council seat is the first elected position Ash has sought. He saidhis everyday work and interests align with the position.

"My family has been inQuincy, specifically in Ward 2, for over 130 years at this point," he said. "I'm service driven and constituent services is basically what I do. As a practicing attorney you're talking about connecting with people at pivotalpoints in their lives and helping them through them, and that's also what the city council is all about. It's in my blood."

Ash also mentioned the Fore River Clubhouse and Faxon Park projects as things he would like to focus on if chosen, as well as ongoing projects at the U.S.S. Salem in the shipyard. He said he's also interested in engaging the community in council decisions, despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

"We want to make sure the city is progressing, but also preserve the history we in the city and Ward 2 love so much," he said. "I'm really looking forward to trying to take on the appointment and, if not, running the race."

Augen, also alawyer, ownsAugen LawOffices in Quincy. He's lived and practiced in the city since 2008 and has a young daughter in Quincy schools.

'I've always been interested ingetting involved in the political scene but wasn't sure exactly when and how that opportunity would arise, but here we are," he said. "There is a lot going on in Quincy right now with development andrisingtaxes, and I thought this would be an opportunity to represent the people in my ward who are concerned about these things. ... I think this is an opportunity to help constituents have their voices heard."

Augen said he's also concerned about thecity's homeless population, particularly those who camp near Faxon Park. He said he's new to the political landscape, and hopes his fresh perspective lends something new to Quincy politics.

"I've dealt with eminentdomain issues, inspection services and I feel like I have a working knowledge of how the regulatory landscape works," Augen said. "I think my background and skill set would be well-suited to help people in my ward address issues they have."

Harkin, 39,is the president and a founding member of the Penn's Hill Neighborhood Association. The organization was heavily involved in decisions surrounding the long-debated Quincy Adams pedestrian gate.

"I absolutely loved it. I got to do a lot of great work with the residents in that neighborhood," she said. "The council is a great opportunity toward the next step of involvement in this city. Just the last five to 10 years has seen amazing change in the city, and I really think the time is right."

Harkin said she wants to make sure every resident who wants to can be involved with issues in their neighborhoods. She has been involved with the Faxon Park revitalization efforts, and said she's heard from many residents who would like to get more involved in similar projects. She also spoke briefly about the city council's efforts to create a department of social justice and equity.

"We have a very diverse city," she said."I know that (Council President Nina Liang) is working on seeing what resources are needed for communities who may not be as heard as others, and I'm very interested in that."

Brogna,a longtime member of the Quincy College Board of Governors, did not reply to requests for comment for this article.

Croall, who was first sworn in as councilor in 2012, stepped down following last week's council meeting. He said the decision will give him more time to spend with his growing family.

Because Croall ran unopposed in the last election and resigned in the second year of his term, councilors are able to choose his replacement. If he'd had opponents in the November2019 election, the second-highest vote-getter would have beenappointed to fill the seat. If he hadresigned in 2020, a special election would have been held.

Matthew Stafford trade fits: These five teams are most likely to complete a deal with Lions – CBSSports.com

    - January 27, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Matthew Stafford has garnered a quiet respect in both the NFL film and analytics communities for his consistent production over the last several seasons. Unfortunately for Stafford, the improvements he made from a mental processing standpoint -- to add to his already elite arm talent arsenal -- were often overshadowed by the franchise he played for. We mean no disrespect to the Detroit Lions fans reading this, but via constant front office (and coaching) turnover, Stafford wasn't exactly put in the best position to succeed throughout his tenure. That's all about to change. Stafford and the Detroit Lions spent a few weeks after the offseason considering their options and they have reportedlyagreed to part ways.

Now, for the next step in the process. The Lions will be opening up the phone lines to begin fielding offers for their franchise quarterback. The bidding is expected to be heavy. Stafford expressed a desire for a fresh start in recent weeks and the Lions agreed to put him on the trade block, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Nework. Since the regular season ended, the two sides have had "open and healthy" discussions, and with a new head coach in Dan Campbell and a new offensive coordinator, this certainly appears to be the right time to make a change.

The Lions are expected to receive at least a first-round pick in return for Stafford even though there are plenty of quarterbacks rumored to be on the market this offseason,ESPN's Adam Schefterreports. So, which teams would give up their first-rounder for the veteran signal-caller? There's expected to be plenty of interest from multiple teams.

Below, we will break down five teams that should at least pick up the phone and call the Lions about their quarterback. Stafford has plenty of connections around the league so he could be playing under a head coach or general manager that he's familiar with in 2021.

Please check the opt-in box to acknowledge that you would like to subscribe.

Sorry! There was an error processing your subscription.

AsCBS Sports' R.J. White noted, new Washington general manager Martin Mayhew was the general manager in Detroit when Stafford was drafted with the top pick back in 2009. It proved to be a great decision and the University of Georgia prospect set multiple franchise and NFL records during his tenure with the Lions. Washington does have Alex Smith, who pulled off a remarkable NFL comeback this past season, but he struggled to stay healthy due to other nagging injuries. Washington had to start journeymanTaylor Heinicke in its postseason matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Washington has a star wide receiver in Terry McLaurin, a talented 2020 rookie running back in Antonio Gibson and an elite defense which is highlighted by a defensive line made up of all first-round picks. Even with a healthy Smith, Washington could stand to upgrade at the quarterback position, and it's a move that could potentially make them a legitimate contender. Washington should call and see if the Lions would accept the No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Philip Riversrecently announced his retirement, so, naturally, the Colts are also in the market for a new starting quarterback. Like Washington, this is a team that appears to be just a quarterback away, but they are much closer to being a legitimate contender. Rivers led the Colts to an 11-5 record this past season -- which was their best campaign since 2014. This is a franchise that has had bad luck with the quarterback position since they parted ways with Peyton Manning. Andrew Luck decided to hang up the cleats early, Jacoby Brissett didn't make the most of his opportunity as a starter and then Rivers gave Indy just one season. Stafford is under contract for two more years and appears to have a lot left. He also still has elite arm talent and knows how to spread the ball around to multiple talented wideouts, so he could fit right in with the likes of T.Y. Hilton and Michael Pittman Jr.

The 49ers have Jimmy Garoppolo under contract for at least another two seasons, but that doesn't mean San Francisco won't move on from him this offseason. Last month, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about Garoppolo, and he didn't sound extremely confident about hisfranchise quarterback.

"You can't say anything with certainty," the coach told reporters, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner. "You don't sit here and make promises on anything. When you build a football team, it's your job to put the best team together year in and year out."

Shanahan did open his dialogue by saying he believes Garoppolo "is going to be our quarterback next year," but his responses to questions concerning his quarterback certainly sounded like he was open to a change. It's hard to believe anything you hear from coaches -- remember when the Arizona Cardinals said that Josh Rosen was their quarterback before drafting Kyler Murray? The 49ers are just one year removed from the Super Bowl, but they failed to make the playoffs this past season. With a solid defense and then versatile weapons like Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle, this team would instantly get back to contending if they upgraded at the quarterback position.

Former Lions head coach Matt Patricia is returning to the Patriotsso maybe he could put in a good word with Bill Belichick concerning Stafford. The Cam Newton experiment did not work and the Patriots are again looking for a new quarterback to fill the voidTom Brady left. It's true that New England has plenty of holes to fill this offseason on the offensive side of the ball, but the quarterback issue is clearly the most important. Stafford's contract is affordable, the Patriots have the No. 15 overall pick and Belichick obviously has some success when it comes to working with a veteran signal-caller and developing a system around him that works.

After going 4-1 as a rookie, Drew Lock took a step backward in his second season. He won just four of 13 starts, and he completed 57.3 percent of his passes for 2,933 yards, 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Despite having two capable running backs and plenty of weapons to throw the ball to, Lock's inconsistencies held back the offense in multiple games this past season, which could lead one to believe that someone else will be starting under center in 2021. John Elway is no longer calling the shots in Denver, but he's still in the front office and could be a fan of a big-armed veteran who fits the prototypical build. The Broncos could also be considered a team that is a quarterback away from finding success, as they have young weapons in Tim Patrick, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler and then tight end Noah Fant. Having Lock learn behind a veteran for a year or two would also be beneficial.

Three generations of Wyeths on display at Tucson Museum of Art – Tucson Local Media

    - January 27, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Brandywine Creek meanders through one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.

Flowing past the rural town of Chadds Ford, 25 miles west of Philadelphia, the stream curves through woods, meadows, hills and farms, impossibly green in summer and blindingly white in winter.

This land is also chock-a-block with American history. It was the home of the Lenni Lenape for centuries until they were pushed out by colonists. In 1777, during the Revolutionary War, insurgent Americans lost the Battle of Brandywine to the British. Half a century later, in the long run-up to the Civil War, Chadds Ford Quakers sheltered enslaved people fleeing the slave state of Delaware.

Chadds Ford has also famously nurtured an extended family of artists: The Wyeths. Proud of their descent from an English colonist in 1645, the talented Wyeths have thrived in this gorgeous landscape, steeped in history, for more the 100 years.

N.C. Wyeth, the founding father of this art dynasty, settled in Chadds Ford in the early 1900s. He and his wife, Carolyn Bockius, had five children. Three growing up in this creative households became painters: Andrew Wyeth, who loved to roam in the countryside, and two of his sisters, Henriette and Carolyn. Another sister, Ann McCoy, became a composer and brother Nathanial became an engineer. Andrews son Jamie also became a renowned painter.

The Tucson Museum of Art has just opened a major exhibition, The Wyeths: Three Generations, featuring more than 60 paintings made by the three best-known Wyeths: N.C. Wyeth (1882-1945), Andrew Wyeth (1917-2009), and Jamie Wyeth (b. 1946).

The show also features five works by Henriette, among them an evocative still life and an arresting portrait of her son Peter. As an artist with a national reputation, she was commissioned to paint the official White House portrait of Pat Nixon.

All the works in the show are realist, which some critics find old-fashioned and conservative. Theres more than one painting of a Revolutionary War, no doubt inspired by that battle up the creek from the Wyeth house. Elsewhere are images of heroic WWII soldiers.

Still, the three featured artists are mostly captivated by the beauties of nature, not just in Chadds Ford, but in coastal Maine as well, where all three generations spent their summers. Andrew in particular seems to have drawn or painted every hill and house along the Brandywine. In the show, theres an exquisite pen and ink drawing of the family home in Chadds Ford that he made when he was only 16.

All three were prodigiously talented and all succeeded at an early age. Andrew sold out an entire gallery of watercolors in New York when he hit 20; a few decades later, his son, Jamie, had a solo New York show at the same magic age. Likewise, Andrews father, N.C., scored his first cover on the prestigious Saturday Evening Post magazine when he was 20.

N.C. was a successful illustrator of adventure books in the early decades of the 20th century, a time when beautifully illustrated books were the norm. N.C. had moved down from Massachusetts to study illustration with Howard Pyle in Wilmington, not far from where he would settle in Chadds Ford.

N.C. was not always happy to be doing commercial art, but the paintings on view are a delight, a robust collection of knights and fishermen and wrestlers. The paintings were to be illustrations on the cover and inside of books; the images

were transformed via metal plates and printed onto books.

For the cover of Rip Van Winkle, in a 1921 edition of the tale by Washington Irving, N.C. painted the young Rip hiking up the Catskill Mountains in company with a strange little bearded man. The sky is a bright yellow and the mountain a rich blue but the darkening trees suggest an ominous outcomeRips 20-year sleep. As a bonus, the exhibition has a copy of the beautiful book.

N.C. tried out impressionism in an untitled landscape in 1923, but his best work here may be A Young Maine Fisherman from 1933. A realist but almost romantic painting, its a large oil canvas that pictures the steady fisherman with his hand on the helm, his eyes on the water. In the background, billowing white clouds float over the blue sea.

Andrew loved many of the same things his father didsky, hills, water, human figuresand he learned much from his father. But the son had a different aesthetic. He didnt use the thick oil paints of his father and he only rarely painted the bright colors that N.C. relished. Instead, he used egg tempera, watercolors and drybrush to make muted paintings that are contemplative rather than boisterous.

In the 13 works by Andrew Wyeth in the show, we see birds struggling to fly on the windswept Maine coast, with grays and muted greens the only colors; a gray windowpane opening out to trees in the dim colors of late fall; and in a faint pencil sketch, a barely seen native man peering into a house.

His portraits are equally elusive. A fine picture of a Maine woman, The Rebel, 1977, is a bit more colorful, catching her short blonde hair, blue turtleneck, and the rays of the sun. But this sturdy woman remains an enigma, not unlike the woman in Andrews most famous painting, Christinas World, 1948 (not in this show). That woman, unable to use her legs, crawls up a hilly meadow, pushing her body with her arms.

A later painting, On the Edge, 2001, is similarly mysterious. A woman stands on a big boulder looking out to sea. We cant see her face. All we can see are lights and shadows, the flat ocean, and the overwhelming diagonal of the massive rock. Andrew Wyeth once said that all his works are abstractions. Looking at these works, I think I finally know what he meant.

Jamie Wyeth, still working at 74, may be the bridge between the art of his father and his grandfather. He uses all kinds of media, and he doesnt hesitate to use brilliant color. Best known perhaps for his thoughtful portrait of President John F. Kennedy, painted posthumously (not in this show), Jamie has painted everything from a solemn tribute to the first responders of 9/11 to a humorous self-portrait with a pumpkin head.

Going back to the future, hes still painting Wyeth signature subjects: old barns, harbors, gulls and the sea.

Australia Copper Mining Report 2021-2024: Updated with Impact of COVID-19 Featuring Glencore, BHP, Oz Mineral Resources, & Newcrest Mining Ltd -…

    - January 27, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The "Australia Copper Mining to 2024 - Updated with Impact of COVID-19" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

"Australia Copper Mining to 2024 - Updated with Impact of COVID-19" provides a comprehensive analysis of the Australian copper industry.

The report provides historical and forecast data on Australia's copper production, production by major producers, reserves, top copper mines by reserves and insight on the impact of COVID-19 on the country's copper mining. The demand section provides information on the scope of copper demand from construction and electric vehicle industries, mainly from China. The report also concludes profiles of the major copper producers and information on their major active, planned and exploration projects.

Australia has the world's second-largest copper reserves, at 87 million tonnes (Mt) as of January 2020, after Chile. The number of mine closures along with COVID-19 impact have subdued the Australian copper mine production with 2% fall in 2020. The pandemic led to the temporary closure of the Heron Resources-owned Woodlawn mine in March.

Nifty mine, Cadia Hill mine, Golden Grove mine, Kanmantoo mine and Prominent Hill mine are some of the mine closures which occurred during the year, unrelated to the pandemic. By 2024, the production is expected to reach 1,191.1Kt. China is the largest partner for Australia's copper exports, accounting for 54% of the total.

However, in November 2020 China has banned imports of seven category commodities (coal, copper, barely, sugar, timber, wine and lobster) from Australia, which would hold back the Chinese demand for Australian copper in the near future.

Worldwide Electric Bed Industry to 2027 – Increase in Number of Public-Private Partnership in the Healthcare Industry is Driving Growth -…

    - January 27, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Dublin, Jan. 27, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The "Electric Bed Market Forecast to 2027 - COVID-19 Impact and Global Analysis By Product, Application, and EndUser and Geography" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

According to this report the global electric bed market is expected to reach $4,597.60 million in 2027 from $2,111.59 million in 2019. The market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 9.6% from 2020 to 2027.The growth of the market is attributed to key driving factors such as rising number of chronic diseases, increasing number of hospitals and clinics, and growing number of public-private partnership in the healthcare industry. However, the steep prices of electric beds and reduction in average length of hospital stays are likely to hinder the market growth.

Based on product, the electric bed market is segmented into semi-automatic electric bed and fully automatic electric bed. The semi-automatic electric bed segment held a larger share of the market in 2019, while the fully automatic electric bed segment is expected to grow at a higher CAGR during the forecast period. The increasing number of patients coupled with patient compliance and improvement in the quality of care provided by healthcare institutions across the world is expected to augment the growth of the fully automatic electric beds segment during the coming years.

Most of the global healthcare players focus on the emerging market such as APAC due to increasing prevalence of chronic diseases (including diabetes) and rising medical tourism in the region. Many of the Asian countries such as India, Thailand, and Singapore are becoming the destination for medical tourists. Additionally, government authorities in APAC countries are focusing on strengthening their medical tourism sector, thereby maximizing the flow of revenue. In India, medical science has grown rapidly in the past few decades. Many patients from Europe and the Middle East are choosing India as their favorite destination to leverage the availability of efficient infrastructures and technology with the Indian healthcare sector. The health insurance market and National medical systems here are well developed, which is convenient for visitors from the West and the Middle East. Nevertheless, they also find hospital expenses affordable.

In Japan, the escalating number of foreign visitors is likely to project the healthcare sector as one of the most important contributors to the national economy in the coming years. Poland is steadily growing as one of the popular medical tourism destinations in Europe. The cost of medical treatments in the country are often 60-80% lower than the costs of the same benefits in the rest of the EU countries. The major reason for the growth of tourism is Poland's recognition and acceptance of the European Union.

The rising medical tourism, especially in the emerging countries, is anticipated to provide significant growth opportunities to the electric bed market players during the forecast period.

The COVID-19 pandemic is causing massive disruptions in global supply chains, consumer markets, and the economy as a whole. Manufactured housing units being built in Oregon as temporary housing for fire victims – Wildfire Today

    - January 25, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Map of fires in northwest Oregon, September 13, 2020, while the fires were still spreading.

FEMA has begun moving Manufactured Housing Units (MHUs) onto a newly constructed site in Mill City, Oregon that will provide temporary housing for qualified wildfire survivors and their families.

Several communities southeast of Salem along Highway 22 suffered severe impacts from the Beachie Creek and Lionshead Fires which grew large during the wind event of September 7 and 8, 2020. Some of the worst hit towns were Mill City and Gates.

Construction on the new Mill City site began earlier this month, with work completed ahead of schedule. The site is currently scheduled to receive 13 manufactured housing units (MHUs) and can accommodate up to 16 MHUs, providing necessary temporary housing for the qualified residents of both Linn and Marion counties.

As soon as all MHU are delivered and placed on site, each unit will be given a final inspection ensuring they are ready for occupancy, and families will be scheduled to move into their temporary homes.

To date, 85 families whose homes were severely damaged or destroyed by this years wildfires have been approved for temporary housing units. These units are placed in established RV parks or in FEMA constructed group sites.

In addition to Linn and Marion counties, FEMAs Direct Housing mission is establishing temporary housing for qualified disaster survivors in Jackson and Lincoln counties in sites like the one in Mill City. Housing units are chosen by FEMA based on the survivor family composition and needs, as well as to ensure that requirements for access or functional needs are met.

Currently, 240 qualified families are scheduled to receive FEMA Direct Temporary Housing in the four counties. The current number of qualified families has fallen as many households that qualified for this assistance have located alternate temporary or permanent housing on their own.

Other programs for fire victims such as rental assistance may be available. Apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by downloading the FEMA app, or by calling the disaster assistance helpline at 800-621-3362 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. PDT, seven days a week.

Outlook on the Manufactured Housing Global Market to 2027 – Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast – Yahoo Finance

    - January 25, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

DUBLIN, Jan. 22, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The "Manufactured Housing Market by Number of section, by Location, Application: Global Opportunity Analysis and Industry Forecast, 2020-2027" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

The global manufactured housing market was valued at $27,188 million in 2019, and is projected to reach $38,848 million by 2027, registering a CAGR of 6. 5%. Manufactured housing (MH) is a housing unit which is built partially or fully off-site in factory and is later transported and installed at designated project site. Manufactured homes are constructed as per the strict rules and regulations laid down by the regulatory body. For instance, in the U. S. it is mandatory that manufactured housing units should comply with the federal HUD code, which was laid down by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in June 1976. According to MHI (Manufactured Housing Institute) based in the U,. S., construction cost for per square foot manufactured homes is around 30% to 50% less as compared to on-site build conventional homes.

The rise in demand for manufactured homes can be attributed to the advantages of manufactured housing units such as affordable construction cost, quality control over entire construction process, less lead time of completion of construction, and energy efficiency.

Growth in population and rapid urbanization has resulted into increase in the need for quality and affordable accommodation. This is expected to boost the growth of the manufactured housing market during the forecast period. However, fluctuations in raw material prices such as steel, timber, and concrete affects the profitability of manufacturers, which restraints growth of the manufactured housing market. Moreover, The rise in adoption of technical advancements such as 3D printing, construction robotics, and computer aided manufacturing is expected to offer growth opportunities for the manufactured housing market in the future.

The global manufactured housing market is segmented on the basis of number of section, location, application, and region. Depending on number of section, the market is divided into single section, double section, and multi-section. By location, the market is classified as private property and MH communities. Based on application, the market is bifurcated into residential and non-residential. Region wise, the market is analyzed across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and LAMEA.
