How to clean a stove top remove grease from glass or gas cooktops with baking soda and more – Real Homes

    - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

The stove top gets heavy use in most homes, and it shows the results. Youll likely need to know how to clean stove tops because of spills, boiled-over liquids, splashes from pans, food debris, grease... Yup, its a long list.

The good news is that although burnt-on food and grease appears challenging, you can actually tackle the grime easily. Whether yours is glass, electric, gas, enamel or ceramic, you'll be able to have it looking shiny and new in no time. Using the right tools, commercial cleaners and even natural cleaning agents like baking soda and vinegar, you can employ different successful methods which are fairly similar to what you'd do to clean an oven entirely.

We spoke with Smeg about the best ways to clean different types of stove top glass in particular and they recommend 'A simple microfibre cloth works a treat to remove grease and restore shine. To protect the hob further, invest in a hob cleaner that leaves a silicon protective layer to eradicate marks from building up.'

A daily wipe down is what wed recommend because itll avoid your having to deal with really burnt-on residue and accumulated grease. But even if youre careful to do this after each use (plus if youre not, er, quite so thorough), you should deep clean your stove top weekly or fortnightly at least to tackle all the stuff that does get left behind.

Why? Not only is a dirty stove top unsightly but it also harbours bacteria that you won't want near anything you're cooking. Plus, leaving anything including burnt-on food, on a glass stove top could actually scratch the surface, eventually leading to pitting, eventually leading to a costly stovetop replacement...

Congratulations! Your cooktop is a little easier to clean thanks to its smooth top no nooks and crannies for debris to fall into. To give it a thorough clean, let it cool first then use a cleaner designed for a glass stove top to get rid of any grease thats built up. Make sure you apply it with a soft cloth never use an abrasive cleaner on a glass stove top. When youre done, rinse, then dry with a microfiber cloth.

How to clean glass top stoves with baking soda

Like the idea of using natural cleaners on your stove top? If yours is made from glass, you can spray it with vinegar then wipe with a microfiber cloth for a speedy clean.

For a more thorough clean, you can also use a combination of vinegar and baking soda. Spray the cool top with vinegar first, then sprinkle on the baking soda. Wet and wring out a soft cloth and lay it on top and leave for around 10 minutes. Remove the cloth then wipe the stove top with a microfiber cloth. Spray it with vinegar again, and use a new clean microfiber cloth to wipe and buff it. Youll need to repeat until all the residue is gone.

If theres burnt-on residue on your glass stove top, get yourself a scraper designed for glass stove tops like the one in the HG Glass Stove top Cleaner.

Enamel is a durable material, but if you have one of these stove tops, make sure you wipe up anything acidic that spills straightaway as it shouldnt be left on the surface. Were talking vinegar, tomato sauce, marinades, fruit juice and so on.

Dish soap and water will keep the surface clean, but if you prefer to pick up a product from the supermarket, go for one specified for enamel stove tops and follow the instructions on the pack.

Follow the instructions for cleaning a glass stove top (above) if yours is a ceramic version. Your manufacturer may recommend a specific cleaner for the stove top. If theres food burnt-on to a ceramic stove top, make sure you check the instructions in the manual on the type of scraper thats suitable to avoid marking it.

If theres burnt-on residue on your stove top, a scraper is often the answer, not a razor blade! but always check the manual so youre sure one of these can be used on your stove top, and make sure the scraper is compatible with the stove top material, too.

When youre using a scraper, spray the problem area with distilled white vinegar first, then hold your scraper at a low angle so its the residue youre working on rather than putting pressure on the stove top surface.

Failing that, there are also stronger commercial degreasing products for stoves out there if things have become really bad. As always check your appliance manual to make sure youre using a product suitable for yours.

Martha Stewart has a handy tip for cleaning fuel ports on a gas stove, 'Clear any blockages with a pin or paper clip.' And for the stove knobs (they need a clean too) 'Remove knobs, and wash with warm water and dishwashing liquid. Do not soak in water or use a cleaner that contains ammonia or abrasives, since doing so may remove the graphics. Dry thoroughly before replacing.'

Melissa Maker of Clean My Space, 'A really great to maintain your cooktop is to clean it after each use. That means as soon as you finish cooking, let the cooktop cool down and then get out a cloth or a soft sponge and a little bit of soapy water, and wipe it down.'

    Now let's get cooking.

Window cleaner stole from pensioner after having cup of tea with her – Nottinghamshire Live

    - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

A man has been banned from cleaning windows for five years after he stole a large amount of money from an elderly customer.

Michael Godber was handed a Criminal Behaviour Order for five years in light of his most recent offence.

It stops him from offering goods and services at any residential premises in England or Wales, and he must not to go round as a window cleaner or door-to-door, or enter certain areas on a map.

Judge John Burgess made the order after he heard the details of a shocking burglary.

Godber knocked on the victim's back door and told the vulnerable 73-year-old he had come to clean the windows and would do "the outside and the inside windows".

He went inside and sat on her sofa and she made him a cup of tea, Nottingham Crown Court heard.

Later she showed him pictures of her late daughter as he sat on the end of her bed.

After he left, she noticed her jewellery case had been turned upside down and a pair of earrings were missing, as well as cash.

Godber - who had been cleaning her windows for a few months - was arrested at his home address where a bag of cannabis was found in a kitchen drawer.

The 39-year-old, of Church Hill, Kimberley, pleaded guilty to the burglary after he entered the house, in Halls Lane, Newthorpe, as a trespasser and stole 2,255 in cash and a pair of earrings on November 9, 2020. He also admitted possessing cannabis.

In a victim impact statement the pensioner, who lives alone in sheltered housing, said she lost the 2,255 which she had to pay her bills.

She had never been in debt before and kept the money to ensure her bills were paid. Her washing machine and freezer need replacing but she does not have the sufficient funds to replace them.

The incident left her feeling very uncomfortable in her home, unable to sleep in her bedroom, and she had found herself in the living room in the early hours of the morning.

She felt "dirty and violated" at the thought of someone going in her home and going through her things.

Judge Burgess told Godber that back in 2017 he received a 33-month prison sentence for deceiving vulnerable people and taking large sums of money from their bank accounts.

Godber used blank cheques he had persuaded them to sign and bank cards.

Of the most recent offence, he said Godber "stole a large sum of money from her and a pair of earrings" and she was a "vulnerable woman".

"She has been extremely disturbed and distressed by what you did to her," he added.

He told Godber, over a video link to HMP Nottingham, "it was high culpability, because you were deliberately targeting a vulnerable victim" and "you knew how old she was because you were cleaning her windows".

He gave him a three-year sentence for the burglary, of which he will serve half in prison, and no separate penalty for the cannabis offence.

Digby Johnson, mitigating, said Godber had previously been to the premises without any difficulty as a window cleaner and, on the day in question, he went to collect money owed for previous cleaning of windows.

They had tea and biscuits and there was a discussion about alleged poor work done at the home by social housing, particularly the bathroom door.

"He goes and looks at the bathroom door and establishes there is nothing he can do to correct the problem and accepts he is sat in the bedroom and was shown pictures of the deceased daughter of the complainant," added Mr Johnson.

His client accepted, at that point, he saw and took the cash but had no recollection of taking the earrings.

Can you clean with white wine vinegar? 12 things you can and CANT clean with vinegar – Express

    - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Mrs Hinch shares vinegar cleaning trick for jewellery

Cleaning your house can be an arduous chore for anyone. With endless cleaning products available, its hard to know whats best for your house. But, in fact, household substances can be the best thing to use when cleaning. They are natural, effective and cheap to get a hold of, making them the perfect solution for a good spring clean.

In short, yes, you can clean with white wine vinegar.

You might be surprised to hear it, but theres so many things you can use white wine vinegar for.

Cleaning with white wine vinegar isnt just good for your wallet, but it helps to keep millions of plastic bottles out of landfills while protecting both your health and that of your family.

White wine vinegar provides the solution to so many cleaning obstacles, rendering your cleaning day that much easier.

READ MORE:Stained Tupperware: How to remove stains from plastic containers

Instead of spending money on window cleaners, you can make your own using you guessed it white wine vinegar.

Mix two tablespoons of vinegar with a gallon of water and dispense it using any spray bottle. After squirting, dry off with a cloth.

White wine vinegar is a great dishwasher un-clogger.

Youre recommended to put two cups of vinegar on the top rack in a glass measuring cup then run the washing machine as normal.

The vinegar will mix with the dishwater as it circulates, giving it that good clean youve been yearning for.

All towels start to feel stiff at some point, and rather than throwing them away, use white wine vinegar to freshen them up.

Mix half-a-cup of vinegar and no detergent with the towels in the machine and run the wash as normal.

This will help remove the residue and minerals that are making them feel itchy and harsh.

Carpet stains such as wine will be no more by mixing a tablespoon full of washing up liquid and one tablespoon of white wine vinegar with two cups of warm water.

Use a clean white cloth or sponge to apply a bit at a time, blotting frequently with a dry cloth until the stain disappears.

DON'T MISSClean from the top down or risk doubling your work load[INSIGHT]How to clean makeup sponges[REPORT]How to get rid of dust mites[ANALYSIS]

Vinegar can help remove bacteria and pesticides from your supermarket veggies.

Mix three parts water to one part white vinegar and dispense in a spray bottle, then simply rinse with water.

If youre having issues getting that sticky, annoying level off a product or you accidentally glued something together, use vinegar as a solvent to dissolve many common adhesives.

Vinegar is an excellent solution to cutting grease.

The acid in the vinegar can cut through the natural stone and give them a great spruce tip. Use a mild liquid dish liquid and warm water instead.

Just like the countertops, the natural stone in tiles wont take kindly to acidic cleaners like vinegar and lemon.

Avoid ammonia too, and stick to cleaning with special stone soap, which you can find in any good DIY or homeware shop.

If you drop an egg on the floor, do NOT reach for the vinegar to help clean up.

While vinegar is great for most things, it doesnt agree with eggs. Just like when you poach one, the acidity from the vinegar can cause it to coagulate, making the egg 10 times harder to remove.

Vinegar can damage the internal parts of an iron, so dont pour it through to freshen and clean it out.

To keep irons from clogging, empty them completely after youve finished, and follow the manufacturers cleaning instructions.

This is one that people dont really agree on. Some homeowners claimed white wine vegan could clean their hardwood floors beautifully, while others have said the floors were damaged as a result.

Use a cleaner specifically formulated for hardwood, which can be found in any leading DIY and hardware shop.

Blot, sponge and try as hard as you might, grass stains, ink, ice cream and blood wont come out with vinegar by itself.

They tend to set into fabric very quickly or just dont respond to acidity, so treat them with a less abrasive stain remover.

Services available in Ravalli County to help seniors through the pandemic – Insurance News Net

    - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Feb. 5While everyone is even more isolated than usual due to the COVID pandemic help for elderly community members to keep living independently is important.

Opportunities for services come from independent businesses like Sapphire Lutheran Homes and the Ravalli County Council on Aging.

At Home is a concierge service through SLH geared toward helping elderly community members in the Hamilton area. They offer a variety of services from weekly grounds care, housekeeping, care coordination and gathering supplies.

"We make living a little bit easier, keeping them independent longer," said Mark Granados, At Home director. "Members simply call our front desk just like anyone who lives at Sapphire to make requests or even order a meal for delivery."

He compared the At Home program to "renting a son-in-law" with services like running errands, snow removal, lawn mowing and monthly preventative home maintenance.

"The things they call their children for we can help them with," Granados said. "Depending on the season we will inspect the home to make sure everything is working properly like smoke detectors, air filters, cleaning heater vents and rain gutters. If they need carpet installed, we find someone to install that, of course, they pay the private contractor and the carpet, but we do whatever we can do to coordinate services and help keep costs down."

Members Joan and John Richards have been with Sapphire's At Home program for nearly a year and said with their health issues they truly appreciate the program.

"At Home has been the answer to our needs," John Richards said. "We have been able to stay in our comfortable home due to the housekeeping and yard services. Mark (Granados) and Mikayla (Hammons), transportation driver and certified nurse assistant] have been our cheery lifesavers. Not only do they keep the house clean and the yard neat and tidy, but they also help with 'concierge' items as well."

At Home has helped the Richards with new smoke alarms, changing light bulbs, light furniture moving, window washing, transplanting a few garden items, carrying/moving heavy items, adjusting their shower fan, caulking the shower, putting in tub bars for stability, helping with electronics and turning their mattress.

"I know there is more but can't think of them all right now," Joan Richards said. "Not only would our house be headed for disrepair, but our spirits would have sunk without such help. And Mark does it with expertise, kindness and friendliness. We are truly grateful for this program."

At Home offerings include participating in Sapphire activities and social events, monthly lunch outings, chores, personal errands, transportation, personal laundry service, access to a meal card plan, a 24/7 emergency response system and access to Canyons Athletic Club.

"A lot of it is coordination on our part," Granados said. "Our goal is to maintain their quality of living and make living a bit easier for people who don't want or are not ready to move into a retirement community. It is independent living. It's everything you could expect to receive at Sapphire Lutheran Homes, but you get to stay in your own home."

Matthew Johnston recently wrote a note of appreciation to Granados for the care and support of the At Home program used by his father.

"As you well know, his dementia accelerated quickly and the sense of urgency and personal interest you took in Dad's support and needs has made such a difference in his life," Johnston wrote. "The work you are doing is just tremendous; the care you provide and more importantly, the love and grace with which you provide it is just incredible and we thank you deeply for this.

"We feel very blessed as a family to have met you and become connected to Sapphire Lutheran Homes," Johnston said.

Granados clarified that At Home is not a home health service but home care is a service they can coordinate. He said care has extended to At Home members during the pandemic including testing and vaccination.

For more information contact Mark Granados, director of At Home Concierge Services at Sapphire Lutheran Homes, at 406-363-2800 or visit http://www.sapphirelutheran.org/.

The Ravalli Council on Aging has a focus of "Providing the Opportunity for Independence" and is an Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) dedicated to assisting people in Ravalli County 60 years of age and older or those with a qualifying disability.

Executive Director Cathy Orr said keeping people independent is their goal and mission statement.

"We strive to provide the resources seniors need to remain in their homes as long as possible," Orr said. "Everything we do is to help people remain independent, it gives seniors a sense of purpose."

She said allowing a senior the ability to make choices throughout the day impacts on how they feel about themselves.

"When they are no longer managing their own decisions, they may feel like less of an individual and a shell of their former selves," Orr said. "Independence can aid in daily routines which can help promote both memory and independence."

The Ravalli County Council on Aging offers a continuity of care in their services which include Meals on Wheels which are healthy, nutritious meals delivered to homebound seniors. They also have Congregate Meals that provide hot meals and socialization (though not during social-isolation). Legal Assistance is available to seniors needing limited estate planning services. Lifeline Medical Alert Service provides personal emergency alert response.

Council on Aging is a community resource and referral program to assist in finding human resource services, health care programs and professional services. It offers a Money Management Program to assists seniors and at-risk adults who are having difficulty managing their personal finances to ensure bills are paid and critical services are met.

It provides supplemental food every other month to qualified seniors through its Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Homemaker Services (light housekeeping) is available to low-income seniors intended to keep the senior's home clean, safe and clutter-free.

Ravalli County residents of all ages can ride the Bitterroot Bus which provides on-demand, curb-to-curb transportation services and also use of The Loan Closet which provides durable medical equipment including walkers, wheelchairs, bath benches, crutches, bedside commodes and more on a donation basis.

Even after more than 30 years in the cleaning industry, a pristine, shining floor thats been freshly polished to a high gloss still evokes a swell of pride in Robert Bertuzzi.

Its exciting when you walk into a nice, clean building. To me, it still looks good, Bertuzzi said. I still get excited about looking at the floor, and I think a lot of the cleaners are in the same position.

As one half of the brotherly duo leading Reliable Maintenance Products and Reliable Cleaning Services his brother, Joe, works alongside him as vice-president Bertuzzi well knows the hard work that goes into that clean floor.

His familys cleaning and manufacturing business has been helping to tidy up Sudbury and Northern Ontario for more than 60 years.

It all began in 1952 when his uncle, Leo Bertuzzi, arrived back in his hometown after having spent a brief time working as a window cleaner for a company in Hamilton.

Seeing few similar companies operating in the Sudbury area, Leo intuited a business opportunity and struck out on his own.

With just a bucket, a couple of mops and an old car to get around, Leo began cleaning windows, one business at a time. His big break came after landing contracts with city hall and the local police service.

By 1956, Leo had brought on his brother, Noah, as a partner, and the siblings grew the business together, branching out into additional cleaning services and manufacturing their own line of cleaning products the first manufacturer in Northern Ontario to do so.

Robert, one of Noahs seven children, joined the company in the mid-1980s, but it wasnt always a given that he would follow in his fathers footsteps into the family business.

Like his uncle Leo, he had left Sudbury, to pursue an education in finance. He had just passed his chartered accountant exam and was looking to make a name for himself at the Toronto firm he had joined when his dad called to see if he would return home to carry on the business.

I was feeling pretty good, and so it was a big decision either to continue on in my accounting career or to come back home and join the family business, said Bertuzzi, who serves as company president. I can tell you it wasnt a decision that was made easy.

Ultimately, the idea of continuing to grow Reliable won him over, and Bertuzzi said its been a rewarding career.

It was a tough decision, but it turned out to be a good decision, he said. I think, with the timing of coming back, I was pretty lucky.

At that time, Northern Ontario was still serviced by small, locally owned and operated businesses, Bertuzzi said, and there were lots of opportunities for growth.

Today, the company operates out of a 15,000-square-foot shop on Regent Street in Sudburys west end, from which they distribute 50 different cleaning products, including absorbants, carpet cleaners, hand and body soaps, industrial chemicals, mops, and more.

On the cleaning side of the business, Reliable offers janitorial and contract cleaning services, as well as specialty services such as mold inspection, biohazard cleaning, hood and vent cleaning and, of course, window cleaning.

From Sudbury and its many branch offices, the company services clients as far south as Barrie, up to Kenora in the north, and everywhere in between.

Reliable is additionally a member of ProLink, an international group of full-service independently owned cleaning companies that provides marketing support and enhanced purchasing power.

Over the last year, Bertuzzi has been buoyed by the support shown to cleaners and the cleaning industry in general, as the service became more in demand due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Its an industry that is generally forgotten and only acknowledged when something is not done, and its rarely appreciated, Bertuzzi said.

So its good to have the industry brought to the forefront, and those cleaners that go in every day, and the people that use cleaning products on a regular basis, theyre more recognized as important contributors to whatever business theyre in.

Seeing cleaners being recognized for what they do and appreciated for what they do is really rewarding, from our perspective. It touches our heart.

It is Reliables staff, he emphasized, that has made the company what it is today. Having a strong contingent ofdependable employees that takepride in their workhelps serve their customers with the high quality of service set by his father and his uncle so many years ago.

I believe success is really based on your team, Bertuzzi said. We have a very strong team atmosphere around here. But our employees are extremely important in the success of our business, and for our customers.

As he nears four decades in the business, retirement is on the horizon for Bertuzzi and his brother Joe (their brother, Albert, retired about eight years ago), and the duo is already preparing in advance of passing down the business to the next generation: their nephew has joined the team and is learning the ins and outs of the industry in the first steps toward taking over the business.

Bertuzzi is excited that the family tradition will carry on, and optimistic, in general, about the future of the cleaning industry.

With new equipment and products continually evolving, and a new, heightened appreciation for the role disinfecting and sanitization plays in our day-to-day lives, Bertuzzi believes the sector offers endless possibilities for those who want to continue on the important work of keeping our world clean.

I think the cleaning industry can see a better future moving forward, he said. Maybe this awareness may go away, but I think its going to be in peoples minds that, come every flu season, what are we doing to prevent the flu from occurring in our places of business or our home?

So I think theres a future in the cleaning industry for the people that are willing to commit to it and play a part in it.

This article is one in a series focused on the rich histories, journeys and long-term successes of generational businesses in Northern Ontario.

Cleaning, designing and staging the house – nj.com

    - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

We live in a time of change. Nowhere is this more apparent than in real estate. Many people are waving goodbye to the house they have lived in for years. They are moving on. They are moving to a bigger -- or smaller -- house. And they need help doing it.

Lots of work needs to be done before your house is ready to sell. Staging is the operative word here. Staging a property to attract potential buyers should not be taken lightly. A property that is well-staged -- inside and outside -- can get a quick signature on that sales contract.

Specialists take care of staging. They have a designers eye, know exactly how far to go in their design to appeal to that buyer you want to attract. Stagers set up the property from curb appeal considerations to wiping away that last spec of dust on the kitchen appliances.

Marie Kristoff operates Flemington Decor, where the focus is on design work. Her retail store is located at 139 Main St. in Flemington.

It all began more than half a century ago. Over the years, Marie has handled a multitude of clients -- residential and commercial. Projects have ranged from 500 to 16,000 sq. ft., and these have included homes, public spaces, boutique retailers, and small commercial offices.

My expertise and services include interior design, antique furniture, art procurement and installation, wall coverings, window treatments, and lighting, she notes.

She is sensitive and responsive to the clients vision. She is committed to design that highlights the interrelationships between architecture, space, form, color, materials, economy and design integrity. She effortlessly collaborates with clients, architects, artisans, and contractors, bringing them all together to create the finished design desired for the home or commercial building space. Her big inventory of fabrics includes works from designers and mills in the United States and beyond.

My design philosophy can be easily summed up, Marie says. The focus is always on the client -- interior environments must reflect a clients lifestyle and aesthetic aspirations. Solutions must reflect the project budget. All our proposed designs will be explained in comprehensive presentations. And great attention will be paid to each and every step.

Marie is very much hands-on with each client. She leverages an impressive range of experience and skills to handle many aspects of each project herself -- rather than subcontracting various components to others.

Clients come to me for design work in their homes and offices, she notes. Consultations on new furniture selections, updating existing furniture, interior color planning, and window treatments are some of our most sought-after services.

So, Flemington Decor can work with you on many levels. You might just want to refresh and revamp that tired and dated space you call home. Or, you might want to get the place ready to attract that buyer you know is out there with a whole house staging.

Others might want more light streaming through the windows, and new window treatments could nicely solve that problem. Or, perhaps that armchair is getting threadbare and could really brighten up the room with a re-upholstering with a fabric a little more today.

For more information and to make an appointment to begin, call Marie at 908-782-5111. Also go through her website at FlemingtonDecor.com or her Facebook page.

Interior designers share 5 bedroom trends that’ll be huge this year, and 5 on their way out – Insider – Insider

    - February 9, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Sage-green bedding is a soothing trend.

Andra DelMonico, interior designer of Next Luxury, told Insider that this color bedding is gaining popularity.

"Sage green is calming, soft, and sophisticated," DelMonico said. "It's the grown-up version of your basic green."

Try pairing sage bedding with other soft colors such as pale yellow, cream, or pastel pink. The hue also works on other bedroom textiles, like throw pillows and upholstery.

    Canopy bed frames add drama.

Dramatic bedroom designs are trending, and nothing makes a statement quite like a canopy bed frame.

"Having a canopy in your bedroom can give your room an elegant feel," DelMonico said. "Iron canopies, in particular, are stylish while still allowing for plenty of light."

DelMonico suggested that if you do opt for an iron alternative, you should add white bedding for a strong contrast and a clean, modern aesthetic.

Vintage screens can be practical and beautiful.

Screens are perfect for dividing a space, adding privacy, and dampening sound, and vintage options are particularly having a decor moment.

"These screens can give a bedroom a sense of old-world style while also separating spaces, which will be invaluable in 2021," DelMonico said.

You can use a screen to hide a bedroom desk or lean it behind your bed for a unique headboard.

Peel-and-stick murals are a nondestructive way to decorate.

Michelle Harrison-McAllister of Michelle Harrison Design told Insider that this simple addition is a rising trend.

"Peel-and-stick murals are a popular bedroom statement right now," Harrison-McAllister said. "We're even seeing this trend extend up toward the ceiling."

Temporary decals and wallpaper are also ideal for children's bedrooms or rented homes where decor may need to be swapped out.

Natural textures are expected to be in for 2021.

Kobi Karp, principal interior designer at Kobi Karp Architecture and Interior Design, told Insider that this upcoming season's bedroom styles will heavily feature natural pieces.

"Using earthy hues and textures allows bedrooms to feel like comforting, safe spaces for those seeking to escape from the outside world," Karp said.

Fabrics like linen and cotton are good bedding options, and rattan, wood, or wicker furniture evokes a natural vibe.

On the other hand, matching bedding may soon look dated.

The time has come to consider ditching the one-color bedspread, pillows, and draperies.

"The matching bedding trend is over," Harrison-McAllister said. "Personalizing the bedroom has become more important in recent years."

Instead of buying a bedroom-in-a-bag set, try decorating your space with several different complementary textures and colors.

Industrial pieces can often look cold.

Stripped-back industrial designs have been going strong for years, but the raw edges and hard, metal finishes of this style are moving out of fashion.

"Bedrooms are meant to feel warm and inviting, and industrial finishes tend to feel sterile and cold," Karp said.

Industrial-design elements like Edison bulbs and concrete may give way to plush fabrics and furniture with rounded corners.

Matching bedside-table lamps are seemingly done for now.

Matching nightstand lamps have been a classic addition for years, but the trend for clear surfaces may be sweeping them away.

"Wall sconces are a great way to achieve the same feel of nightstand-table lamps, but in a cleaner and less cluttered way," Harrison-McAllister said.

If you're not quite ready to ditch your bedside lamp, you can downsize to a smaller, dimmer option to help clear space on your nightstand and create a more restful bedroom environment.
