Report: Liverpool looking to replace Joel Matip in summer window – Rousing The Kop – Liverpool FC News

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Liverpool have been rocked by injuries this season. The Reds have been utterly devastated by the fitness issues theyve faced and Kopites have been clamouring for reinforcements to be brought in in the January transfer window. However, the club appears to be waiting until the summer. According to Melissa Reddy for The Independent, Liverpool will replace Joel Matip at the end of the season.

    We never saw this coming.

The Reds sold a centre back in the summer without replacing him.

Who couldve guessed that the invincible Virgil van Dijk would be ruled out for the season?

By mid-November we were down to just one centre back in the first team squad and he isnt the most reliable fitness wise.

Subscribe to Rousing The Kop TV now

In fact, Matip is currently ruled out with an abductor problem, leaving the Reds without a natural senior centre back in the first team.

Naturally, fans and pundits have been urging Liverpool to invest in January.

The financial reality means that the club will likely have to wait until the end of the season to strengthen.

According to The Independent, Liverpool will look to replace Joel Matip in the summer.

Melissa Reddy wrote: when Liverpool do buy a centre-back, it will be their intention that the player ultimately replaces Matip.

    This comes as no surprise.

The persistent injuries to Matip during his time at Anfield have blighted what couldve been an immense career.

He is one of the most naturally talented defenders weve seen at the club this century but he is so rarely fit.

We need a man who can play most of our league games without a problem.

We cant keep chopping and changing our centre back pairings. Bringing in a centre back to replace Joel Matip makes sense.

Have something to tell us about this article?

Brendan Hodrien is a woolyback writer, born in Birkenhead and raised by his Dads stories of Paris, Wembley and Rome. He has appeared on 90Mins YouTube as well as Channel 4s Ultimate Football Fan Show, he is still coming to terms with Liverpool selling Xabi Alonso.

Apple rumored to deliver Apple Music and Podcasts apps to Microsoft Store – AppleInsider

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

A rumor on Thursday claims Apple is developing native Apple Music and Podcasts apps for dissemination on the Microsoft Store, though it remains unclear if the company plans to replace iTunes for Windows.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, 9to5Mac reports Apple is testing Music and Podcasts apps for Microsoft platforms as part of a closed beta process. The apps could make their way to the Microsoft Store later this year.

While not revealed in the report, Apple could be working on an iTunes replacement for Windows. The once-ubiquitous and bloated media management hub was split into distinct apps and system services with the introduction of macOS Catalina, but remains intact on Microsoft's operating system.

Job listings in 2019 hinted that Apple is working on standalone media apps for Windows, a natural expansion for subscription services like Apple Music and Apple TV+. At the time, Apple was seeking engineers with Universal Windows Platform (UWP) experience. The API, introduced alongside Windows 10, allows developers to write and deploy software for use on Windows 10, Xbox One and HoloLens.

Apple most recently released Apple TV+ for Xbox consoles in November, a move that coincided with availability on Sony's latest PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

If Apple chooses to replace iTunes for Windows with standalone Apple Music and Podcasts apps, iPhone users without access to a Mac will need new means of syncing and backing up their device to a host computer. On Mac, those duties are now in the domain of Finder.

Surface Pro 7+ for Business: Here’s what makes it different – ZDNet

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ for Business.

Many of the typical differentiators of business PCs don't apply to Microsoft's Surface line. The form factors are the same, for example, and while business laptops often have a fingerprint sensor, the biometric Windows Hello camera is on consumer models as well.

Even a Surface Go with Windows Home has what's effectively BitLocker drive encryption(although it's called 'Device encryption' in Settings because home users don't have the same management options as enterprise admins). With a tablet form factor and USB-C, there are few worries about buying accessories that need to be interchangeable, or whether components will be available down the line because there's nothing replaceable.

SEE: Cheat sheet: Windows 10 PowerToys (free PDF) (TechRepublic)

Businesses do care about the packaging of devices (because they're on the hook for disposing of -- and preferably recycling -- it as part of their corporate social responsibility programs), so they like the brown-box packaging for the Surface business line: it's now 99% natural fibre and 64% post-consumer recycled waste.

The things that business really care about in laptops are manageability and security. Business Surface models are available with Windows Autopilot, so they can be delivered preconfigured, and the new Pro 7+ comes with some key Windows security options turned on by default for the first time: HVCI (Hypervisor Code Integrity) and VBS (Virtualization-Based Security).

VBS sets up several small, fast, invisible virtual machines (VMs) on the PC that are separate from the main Windows OS, and Hyper-V tells the PC hardware to treat memory pages for them differently, so each VM can only access its own memory. It handles things like secure Windows logon and the integrity of Hyper-V itself, as well as OS security features like Credential Guard. These are usually optional features, however, and before turning them on organisations want to make sure they don't break any drivers.

Having them on by default is more secure because the PC is protected from the very first time it's turned on turning them on later runs the risk that malware could have already infiltrated the system. It's arguably simpler, as drivers that aren't compatible simply won't get installed. But OEMs tend not to turn them on by default because they worry that performance might be affected.

Microsoft tells us that it did a lot of tuning to Hyper-V (as well as pushing the ecosystem on drivers) so that turning on these security features hasn't reduced performance or battery life. (Also, as business PCs, it's less of a problem if the security features impact the frame rate of some games than it would be on consumer devices.)

Hopefully, that will encourage other PC vendors to start turning them on by default as well, because although Windows has a range of security features that use the hardware virtualisation features in CPUs, many PCs with the right hardware don't take advantage of them. Surface is an important business line for Microsoft and the devices have to succeed in their own right, but part of its raison d'tre is to showcase how the hardware can enable Windows features in ways that other OEMs can follow.

The Pro 7+ doesn't go as far as the Surface Pro X and other Secured-core PCs, which use the CPU to check the measurements made during Secure Boot before loading Windows, in case malware has compromised UEFI or other firmware on the PC. Attacks on firmware have been increasing since 2016 and Secured-core offers the kind of protection you need in regulated industries because the device is protected before the TPM is initialised in the factory, so you don't have to worry about supply-chain attacks where the PCs you order are intercepted and tampered with before they reach you. When Secured-core PCs were announced in 2019, Microsoft director of OS security Dave Weston told us that they're "specifically designed for highly targeted industries that handle super-sensitive data and need added, multiple layers of security built in."

SEE:Quantum computers are coming. Get ready for them to change everything

Not everyone needs that level of security, especially when it comes at the cost of some convenience. Like the new Pluton security processor, Secured-core PCs, take several lessons from the way Microsoft secures the Xbox, although Windows isn't becoming a appliance in the same way a games console is.

But you can't, for example, install a new DMA device attached over Thunderbolt on a Secured-core PC until you unlock it with a PIN or biometrics. And it's always possible that turning on all the Windows security features will mean some badly written driver that you actually need won't work.

That's far less of a problem in the Arm ecosystem where there are fewer legacy drivers to worry about and where every device is already running a hypervisor (usually the one Qualcomm provides). As long as Hyper-V delivers as good or better performance as that hypervisor, there's no performance impact from turning on the security features for Windows on Arm devices like the Surface Pro X.

For the Pro 7+ Microsoft told us that although it's not a Secured-core device, the company feels it has equivalent levels of security thanks to the custom UEFI firmware used in Surface devices.

These two features, which are the basis of so many advanced Windows security features, can push the x86 ecosystem along so that, over time, all PCs can eventually ship secure by default. And while it's too early to see the Pluton security processor showing up in Surface, Microsoft did tell us that's definitely on the roadmap for the future.

The Surface Pro 7+ has a removable SSD.

Another notable thing about the Pro 7+ is its removable SSD. On the Surface Pro X models, this seems like a way to get flexibility in pricing and spec: you could buy a cheaper unit with the storage you thought you'd need and upgrade when you discovered you were doing more on the device than you'd planned. Or, as happened to us, you could buy a Pro X with less storage that you really wanted because the larger models weren't shipping and plan to upgrade later. (That upgrade hasn't happened yet because the right format of SSD has been hard to find.)

We did ask Microsoft if the company had taken any steps to make that easier for businesses would additional SSDs be available through the Microsoft Store or deals with OEMs? but the spokesperson had nothing to share.

In fact, although you could use the removable SSD to upgrade the storage capacity, even with OneDrive integration making it easy to get your files, cloning and reimaging devices is still a somewhat tedious process. The removable SSD in the Pro 7+ isn't really there for device upgrades; it's for data retention. If the Surface Pro is damaged, the organization doesn't have to worry about losing data that needs to be archived or securely deleted. It's much easier to scrub an SSD that you can pop out of the slot and put into an external enclosure than one that you have to prise out of a sealed tablet with specialist tools and a hot air gun (or send back to Microsoft).

Shacknews Best of CES 2021 – Products and innovation – Shacknews

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

It was a strange CES in 2021. The Consumer Electronics Show was confined entirely to an online experience of technology showcases and reveals. The opportunity to demo products and get more hands-on with coverage was lost, but CES 2021 wasnt a total drag. There were a lot of great products to see, especially for gaming. From COVID safety to new GPU-utilizing gaming rigs and so much more, we gathered together some of the best of the best from CES 2021. Have a look.

Nvidias thunder was slightly stolen by a SKU leak in 2020, but it didnt stop us from being excited about what they had in store this CES. The RTX 3060 is an incredible-sounding budget option coming to the RTX 30 series line-up. This GPU is said to pack just as much of a punch as the previous generation RTX 2080 but at a fraction of the cost. It carries a mere $329 standard price tag for the power it brings to the table. Now if Nvidia could just somehow ensure that people will actually be able to get these cards without being at the mercy of the aftermarket bots and re-sellers, that would be nice. Well see what happens when they launch in February 2021.

If youve been holding off on getting a new pre-built rig or laptop because of the new technology coming down the pipeline, then CES 2021 had the reveals youve been waiting for. Razer was one of several companies to come right out of the gate with laptops utilizing Nvidias exciting new Series 30 GPU technology. The Blade 15 and 17 Pro are staying much the same as they were last year. Razer is proud of the design of these current devices, but under the hood, theyre getting Nvidia RTX 30 Series GPUs in 2021 and thats absolutely something that makes new editions of the Razer 15 and 17 Pro worth it on their own. With the confirmation of the RTX 3060, there are even a few slightly more economic editions available when they launch later this January 2021.

Arcade1Up has been continually impressive the various styles of cabinets it keeps putting out year to year. Weve seen four-player cabs, lightgun cabs, and even driving cabs come out of the 3/4 scale arcade retailers line-up, but it wasnt so much the innovation as the quality of the new cabinets announced for its CES 2021 line-up. They revealed an Arcade1Up edition of Konamis X-Men in 4-player co-op. And not only can you play it with your local friends, but you can also connect to other X-Men cabinet players online through the games built-in Live WIFI. Arcade1Up also had Killer Instinct, Dragons Lair, and PONG flat-top pub cabinets to show this time out, making for a stellar start to its early 2021 catalog.

Projector screen setups have long been a very technical hassle when it comes to setting them up, requiring special screen installation, a ton of wiring, and a clear path from the projector to the screen space. Hisense is set to change that in a big way in 202 with its TriChroma Laser TV short-throw projector. Simply put, this device is made to offer the same excellent offerings of a projector screen, but from very short distances, removing the need for complicated riggings or clear lanes from the projector to screen space. Hisense also claims the devices are capable of very high-quality outputs, including BT.2020 color standard, which has yet to be offered in consumer electronics. It will be highly interesting to see if the TriChroma Laser TV can deliver on its promises when it launches.

TCL has continued to work tirelessly on making affordable solutions to high-resolution panels and monitors, and that work continued with its reveals at CES 2021. In particular, TCL talked up the new OD Zero technology being offered in its upcoming 6-Series TVs, which is said to feature a near-zero gap between the TVs mini-LEDs and the LCD display layer, making for a supposed massive boost in quality to brightness and contrast. The big ringer though is that even as TCL continues to push its technology, it also aims to keep its TVs highly affordable, touting an 8K for all rhetoric with its 6-Series 4K and 8K TVs featuring the new tech in 2021.

As highly impressive as new OLED technology can be in color, brightness, and contrast, one of the ongoing issues with it is that it doesnt do well in well-lit rooms. LG aims to address this issue with its new line of OLED Evo TVs in 2021, which included a stellar-looking 43-inch monitor. These devices will likely come at a premium price if they do what they say theyre going to do when they launch in 2021, but if LGs OLED Evo truly can be watched in light or dark conditions without issue, its going to be a gamechanger in high-quality TV visual technology.

For the uninitiated, if there was ever a license thats nearly impossible to get ones hands-on, its that of Led Zeppelin. The rock legends are notoriously stingy about who can use their coveted music for anything. So color us shocked when Stern Pinball announced a Led Zeppelin pinball machine and showed the machine in action during CES 2021. This is incredible, to say the least, despite the hefty price tag of any of the three editions of the table ($6,199 USD for the standard Pro version), but the machine is a work of art featuring 10 full-length Led Zeppelin songs, tons of iconography from the bands artwork and music videos on the board, its mechanicals, and the full-color screen on the back of the game, and built-in RGB lighting in the wood panel that strobes along to the music as you play. The sheer existence of this pinball machine is a miracle, but to see all of it in action is dang near euphoric.

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a big toll on the gaming and technology industry as a whole. Heck, CES 2021 is online, and its just the latest of many major events to have to make that pivot. Throughout the whole ordeal, though, Razer has been genuinely involved in various efforts to help, such as when it shifted production to surgical masks for frontline workers the world around. At CES 2021, Razer made its efforts in COVID-19 prevention and health consideration a little more gamified. They revealed the concept of Project Hazel, an RGB smart mask with a powered (and rechargeable) ventilator and filters. We almost want to say its ridiculous, but we have to admit, COVID-19 precautions have really never looked so cool and functional at the same time. Kudos, Razer.

The cool mask wasnt Razers only sweet reveal. Gaming chairs arent any new thing, but the second concept Razer showed off was pretty off-the-wall, even for the most off-the-wall gaming chair weve seen. The Project Brooklyn gaming chair is meant to be an all-in-one gaming solution, offering players a curved screen on a mount that comes down on a hinge over the sitting player's head, all while the arms of the chair extend to offer a roll out gaming platform for keyboard and mouse. Of course, the whole thing is also kitted up in delicious RGB lighting and features smart cable solutions to reduce clutter. Razer is still working out the feasibility of this design, but if it truly comes together, players might have everything they need for a complete gaming experience in one chair.

Having you ever broken a gamepad? This is a safe space. We wont judge you if youve ever flung your Xbox One controller in a heated fit of inarticulate rage. In fact, there might even be solutions to keep your pads safe in the foreseeable future! You see, if anyone knows how to protect a product, its Otterbox. The company has been creating protective cases for smartphones and tablets for years upon years, and at CES 2021, it announced it is entering the game accessory market. The concepts started with covers for Xbox One and Series X gamepads, but a start is a start. We get the feeling if youve ever crushed a controller to smithereens, it might be in your best interest to keep an eye on Otterboxs new protective gaming accessories.

So pretty late last year as one of Apples One More Thing presentations included the reveal of the AirPods Max: some pretty atrocious-looking over-ear headphones with a pretty atrocious $549 price tag to match. Almost as if to spit in Apples eye, Samsung came to the table at CES 2021 with what appears to be the antithesis of the AirPods Max: The Galaxy Buds Pro. Dont get us wrong, these still sound pretty pricey at $199, but they have a lot of things going on that make them sound far superior to what Apple presented. A 1mm woofer and a 6.5mm tweeter, an ambient sound amplifier that can reach up to 20 decibels, and incredibly discerning noise cancellation and listen-through technology make these things sound fantastic. Add that to the fact that they look sleek and low-profile and it kind of looks like Samsung came to eat Apples lunch in the audio market this CES 2021.

And that covers our favorites of the technology shown at CES 2021. Its looking like some exciting things are over the horizon. What did you enjoy the most? Let us know in the Shacknews Chatty comment section below.

OPTICAL FIBER & PLASTIC CONDUIT MARKET SIZE AND KEY TRENDS IN TERMS OF VOLUME AND VALUE 2019-2026 – NeighborWebSJ

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

An optical fiber is a transparent and flexible fiber made by drawing glass or plastic, which is used to transmit light. It is widely applicable in fiber-optic communications, where they allow transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths than wire cables. The adoption of fiber optic cables has increased over metal wires to send signals with lesser signal loss. Increase in internet penetration is the primary growth factor of the global optical fiber market. In addition, plastic conduits are made mostly of PVC that provides advantages of lower costs of installation, lighter weight, non-conductive, resistance to ultraviolet rays and corrosion.

The choice between metal or plastic conduit is mainly influenced by site conditions, type of building, temperature of the location, and exposure to corrosive or damp conditions among others. Plastic conduits offer protection against moisture in comparison with steel conduits. Plastic conduits are being increasingly used for all types of installation work, both for commercial and domestic wirings in IT & telecom sector.

These flexible plastic conduits are made in all sizes from 16mm to 50 mm in external diameter. Thermal expansion of a plastic conduits is about six times that of steel. The installation of plastic flexible conduits is easier than that of rigid plastic conduit, as routing can be done without welding and cutting the conduits around obstructions, which affects its demand globally and assist in the market growth.

Factors such as widespread implementation of 5G, increasing adoption of fiber to the home connectivity, emergence of internet of things, and growing demand for highly secure and safe wiring systems are anticipated to be major drivers of the global optical fiber and plastic conduits market.

However, high installation cost and complications in installation of optical fiber and plastic conduits, growing demand for wireless communication system, and increasing prices of raw materials act as major drivers hampering the market growth globally. Furthermore, technological advancements in fiber optic cables and plastic conduits, rising investments in optical fiber cable network infrastructure, and emergence of cable in conduit system offers lucrative opportunities to the market growth globally.

Ask McEnearney: 10 steps to keep in mind if you are thinking of renovating / remodeling – Inside NoVA

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

According to Merriam-Webster, "remodel" is "to alter the structureof; to remake. Whereas "renovate" is to restore to a former better state (as by cleaning, repairing or rebuilding).

So, I hear they arent making any more land. Maybe thats why its so expensive. It must also be why some people find themselves looking to remodel or renovate an improvement. Did you know thats what a building structure, like a house, is? If you look at your tax record, there is a reference for tax on thelandand one for tax on theimprovement. That improvement is your house. And, lets face it, some improvements are in serious need of a remodel or renovation!

Not sure you want to buy, or cant afford to buy the kind of home you want now? Consider remodeling or renovating. It can be a good strategy and longer-term plan particularly well suited if you love where you currently live or if there is a particular area you like but you cant find a home that meets your needs. Buy one that COULD suit your needs later and plan to remodel or renovate. Create the home you want tailor it to fit your needs. Buy the rambler and in five years pop the top to create a colonial! Add a new roofline to that Cape Cod making true, usable rooms in the attic You get the idea.

I recently visited a client named Jill and was reminded what a great strategy this can be. Jill and her husband love their neighborhood and dont want to leave but are out of space and tired of the style of their home with its dated features and what seems to be an unusable hillside yard. Moving to a bigger and more contemporary home is cost-prohibitive. So, we strategized and discussed staying and remodeling, adding, and maximizing that hillside. If this sounds familiar, youre probably wondering, what should I consider?

First, make sure you really like what the home could be and the overall location.

Second, make sure that the neighborhood can support a big remodel or renovation (as Realtors always think future resale! Will your planned updates make sense?).

Third,if there is a homeowners association, will the project youre considering be allowed?Youll need to check the community by-laws carefully.

Fourth, set a budget. While often not as expensive as buying, renovating is not cheap especially since the recent pandemic has disrupted supply chains.

Fifth, consult smart, experienced professionals. Do you need an architect? Builder? Class A contractor? Landscape architect? Interior designer / space planner? Yes, you will spend some money, but I have learned, first-hand, that you will make up for it in errors you would have made without the assistance of these qualified professionals. They can save you costly mistakes and time, not to mention stress! Another bonus is they often get discounts on materials, furniture, finishes, or services that you would not get as a member of the general public. Professionals can help you realize goals that are important to you. Do you want to build green or use recycled or reclaimed material? Carry along a certain style or theme throughout? Maybe you want designated spaces for your hobbies? They can help you achieve all of this. As a Realtor, I cant tell you how often Ive heard, I wish I would have consulted with someone about some perceived mistake. You will have a better product and more enjoyable space in the end, if you consult with quality professionals.

Sixth, come up with a game plan and be specific and realistic what can you do when? How long will it take?

Seventh, consider unforeseen costs. Will you have to move out of the house for a while and will you need movers to help? What about storage costs for your belongings?

Eighth, make sure you have the appropriate insurance on your property if you will have people there working.

Ninth, dont spend all of your money on the inside and leave no funds for the outside. We have all seen the giant castle on a barren piece of land! Landscaping sets the stage, frames the home, invites and welcomes, and softens hard edges These days, our outside spaces have proven to be more important than ever. They are our escape from home school, Zoom meetings, and a safer space to visit with friends.

Tenth, when it is done ENJOY your improved improvement. As we have learned this year there may come a time when you spend more time in your home than you would have ever imagined!

Oregon’s wildfire recovery debris removal begins with clearing of hazard trees – KTVZ

    - January 15, 2021 by Mr HomeBuilder

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) - Crews around the state are beginning to clear roads and private properties of trees damaged in Septembers wildfires.

The tree-clearing is part of the Oregon Wildfire Recovery Debris Management Task Forces effort to provide cleanup for homes and businesses in the eight affected counties Clackamas, Douglas, Jackson, Klamath, Lane, Lincoln, Linn and Marion.

The work paves the way for rebuilding efforts, community recovery and helps revitalize Oregons economy, the state Office of Emergency Management said in a news release Thursday, which continues in full below:

Before crews begin clearing hazard trees from private property, they will clear remaining logs and debris from roadsides. Drivers in fire-affected areas should keep an eye out for crews and be prepared to stop.

State contractors are marking trees for removal with blue dot and a barcode tracking tag. Many other entities, including utilities and private companies, continue with their own tree removal operations and have their own markings.

On private property, dead or dying trees will be removed if they pose a threat to the safety of cleanup crew or public right of ways. Ash and structural debris removal will soon follow, including concrete and other household and construction materials, from private homes and businesses. A list of what is included in cleanup isavailable.

Hazard trees and ash and debris cleanup are the focus of Step 2 of the cleanup, and includes homes, mobile home parks, second homes, businesses and other structures. Step 1 involved removal of hazardous household waste and was completed in December.

Home and business owners must sign an All Wildfire Debris Right of Entry Form with their county to allow cleanup crews onto their property. Visithttps://wildfire.oregon.gov/or call 503-934-1700 to submit your form and for more information. Even those who did not join in Step 1 of the cleanup may still opt into the program.

Participating property owners also need to complete a questionnaire about their property, to help with planning and ensure an efficient, safe removal of debris.

    The contractors

As the task forces contract manager, the Oregon Department of Transportation is awarding three types of contracts for Step 2: hazard tree removal, debris and ash removal, and monitoring.

Given the large geographic area and volume of work, ODOT awarded the hazard tree, and ash and debris removal contracts over multiple operational areas and not as a single statewide contract.

A separate company is monitoring the cleanup work, environmental testing, and document completion of Step 2, property by property. The Federal Emergency Management Agency requires an independent company to perform monitoring work. This firm will monitor contractors removing hazard trees, ash, and debris to ensure cleanup and safety protocols and proper accounting. FEMA requires monitoring to control costs, reduce waste, and help eliminate fraud.

Ash and debris removal contracts have been awarded and that work also begins later this month.

Oregons 2020 Labor Day fires constitute the largest and most expensive disaster in our states history, burning over 1 million acres and destroying over 5,000 structures.

Initial estimates put the debris cleanup from the September 2020 Oregon wildfires at over $600 million, including $326 million for ash and debris removal and $295 million to remove hazard trees.
