Gaylord Opryland Resort invites guests to freeze the day this Christmas as the longtime holiday tradition, ICE!, returns to the annual A Country Christmas celebration Nov. 11, 2022 Jan. 1, 2023, after a two-year hiatus.
Using more than 2 million pounds or 1,000 tons of ice, the classic 1964 Christmas animated television special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, will be brought to life by a team of 40 ice artisans who carve for thirty days to create the nearly 20,000-square-foot, frozen attraction.
Starting with more than 6,200 massive ice blocks created by three different ice manufacturers because of the sheer amount needed carvers will tally more than 12,000 manhours on the project. The artisans, using skills passed down from generation to generation, follow a 300-page design book to create the spectacle.
This year, ICE! will include 12 scenes from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, featuring classic characters including Clarice, Bumble. Sam the Snowman, Hermey the Elf, and of course Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer himself. Ice carvings range in size from details as tiny as a coin to soaring scenes more than 20 feet tall.
The environment will be kept frozen by a state-of-the-art chilling system which maintains the temperature at a frosty 9 degrees Fahrenheit. And while the 9-degree temperatures turn ICE! into one of the coldest spots in Nashville, guests experiencing the attraction will be provided Gaylord Oprylands signature blue parkas to keep them warm and toasty.
Colored ice (created by a chemist who mixes special food colorings to ensure sculptures maintain their bright colors the entire season), clear ice, and LED lights are all used to create the display, as the frozen fun follows Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as he guides Santas sleigh on Christmas Eve.
In addition to seeing characters from the classic television special, guests can also take rides down four two-story-tall ice slides and traverse through ice tunnels and arches. The ICE! experience concludes in a separate area dedicated to a beautiful Nativity scene, meticulously carved and shaped in a dramatic display of crystal-clear ice.
The talented carvers who create this arctic artwork will travel more than 6,413 miles from their homes in Harbin, China to Nashville, Tennessee. Known as Ice City, Harbin is no stranger to elaborate ice carvings its home to the worlds largest annual ice and snow sculpting festival. The artisans from Harbin have created ICE! for Gaylord Hotels for many years but havent been able to travel to the United States the past two holiday seasons because of international travel restrictions.
Theres Snow Much More!
While ICE! is the signature attraction for the 39th annual A Country Christmas at Gaylord Opryland, there are plenty more festive activities, events, attractions, and dazzling decorations throughout the 2,888-room property. The entire resort transforms into a holiday wonderland with more than 4 million lights, elaborately themed Christmas trees displayed throughout the property including a fully adorned 48- foot tree, 15,000 poinsettias,15 miles of green garland and 10 miles of hand-tied ribbon. Christmas shows and activities are presented in the atriums, while guests can also enjoy a variety of exciting experiences at Pinetop, an outdoor Appalachian-esque village.

usually, The bodys internal clock follows the sun, It wakes you up during the day and sleeps at night. Although artificial lighting can mimic natural lightDirect sunlight is 200 times the intensity of office lighting in a closed room. To get these benefits, you can consider the possibility of carrying out reflective activities at a slow pace, Like hiking in the woods or kayaking on the lake.
6. Improved Immune Function
Expert guidance shows that When youre outside, not to mention other viruses, youre less likely to contract the virus that causes COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2). This is because air circulation can reduce the presence of airborne viruses. In fact, according to 2021 research, Transmission is 18.7 times more likely to occur indoors than outside.
Ignoring the pandemic for the time being, Spending time outside can help your immune system function better. Non-dangerous microorganisms found in nature can exercise your immune system, so to speak, to help prepare you for more serious infections.
If a person lives in a completely sterile environment, his or her immune system may lose its ability to recognize what is dangerous and what is not. So you can trigger a red alert for any microorganism, which can lead to chronic inflammation. So although soap is a wonderful invention, It can also be good to be sloppy from time to time.
7. Myopia Protection
There is some evidence to suggest that Children who spend a lot of time outside are less likely to develop nearsightedness or myopia. In a study conducted in 2020, it included 10,743 children between the ages of 9 and 11 in Taipei. Researchers found that children who spent more time outside at leisure They were 22% less likely to develop myopia than their peers.
Increasing the working distance from the eyes when doing close-up work and taking breaks after 30 minutes of close-up work also provides some protection. Experts have suggested some possible reasons why spending time outside may help prevent myopia:
natural light Provides a brighter, richer collection of wavelengths of light to see.
outdoor Allows your eye to practice seeing objects from different distances.
Light Stimulates the production of dopamine in the retina This prevents the eyeball from stretching and distorting the vision. However, this theory has only been tested on animals.
spoil it It only affects the eye as it grows, so spending time outside may not reverse myopia in adulthood. However, regular outdoor activities during childhood, such as playing ball, swimming or sledding, may save a child from visiting an optometrist later. And, moreover, they provide great opportunities to build family bonds.

(Pocket-lint) - The awesome Star Trek: Lower Decks is returning for a third season, but it's also moving to Paramount+.
There's been plenty of Star Trek fixes for Trekkies of late, including Star Trek: Picard, Strange New Worlds and Discovery. But Lower Decks has always been a little bit different, with tongue-in-cheek humour and plenty of amusing antics of the less important members of the USS Cerritos crew.
-
If you've been following the first couple of seasons of Lower Decks on Disney+ then you probably want to keep watching. If so you'll have to head over to Paramount+ instead.
If you've been waiting with bated breath for the next outing of Lower Decks then good news. There's not long left to wait. Season 3 will start on 25 August 2022.
The third season promises 10 episodes to soak in, releasing one episode per week, every Thursday.
Paramount+ has promised a "shocking resolution" after the cliffhanger of the last season and we'd imagine there will be plenty of the usual hijinx as well.
The trailer also shows the appearance of Deep Space Nine, so that should have some interesting implications.
Lower Decks showrunner Mike McMahan will follow Captain Freeman's trial for allegedly destroying the Pakled homeworld as well as featuring a new relationship between Beckett Mariner and Jennifer Sh'reyan. Though a large part of the story will also focus on her relationship with her mother, Captain Freeman.
As with a lot of other Star Trek shows, Lower Decks season 3 is moving to Paramount+. So you'll need access to that streaming service in order to watch the new season.

If you don't already have access, we've written about how to stream content with Paramount+, which devices support it and which regions it's available in, so you can make sure you don't miss out on Lower Decks season 3.
Star Trek fans will be pleased to hear that as well as the usual brilliant cast, season 3 is also set to include Jonathan Frakes appearing as William Riker in the show.
The other cast include:
Before season 3 even airs people are wondering whether there's going to be a season 4. The good news is that the next season has already been confirmed and was ordered at the start of January 2022.

The two days of partisan political events during the Illinois State Fair are like miniature, stripped-down, informal versions of national political conventions. They serve as a sort of kickoff to our fall campaign season, so they are usually closely watched by reporters who cover campaigns and by insiders.
The speeches and organized theater are usually allowed to dominate coverage. Last week, gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey was driven to the Republican Day event on a large John Deere tractor, a tailor-made image for TV and print reporters alike. He then capably delivered his well-written speech, which mainly attempted to paint the incumbent Democratic governor as an out-of-touch billionaire with soft hands who lives in a bubble and has no clue what average folks are going through.
The hands image was at the core of Baileys speech. With our hands, and our sweat, we nurture life, we strengthen our families, and we feed the world, he said. Take a look at your hands. Theyre probably like mine, a little swollen, a little calloused, got scars on em, he said before relating the life of a farmer.
Companies are leaving, families are leaving. Some people are just throwing their hands up and giving up, he said later in his address. But I mentioned your hands earlier. Look at them again. You and I are hands-on people. We fix problems all day long. Now, weve got to turn our attention to fixing this great state, he continued.
And then he contrasted our hands with the wealthy governors. On Tuesday, I milked a cow, Bailey said, which, of course, involves his hands. Last week with J.B. Pritzker, he took a picture with the butter cow. Now dont get me wrong. The butter cow is amazing. But J.B. and his soft billionaire hands was safely on the other side of that protective glass, far from the work. Kind of like in his billionaire bubble. I say he doesnt care. But I want to tell you something. Maybe he just doesnt know.
The hands metaphor was also used as a means of political action: You cant clear a field of weeds if you dont pull them out by the roots, friends, and the only way to fix Illinois is to fire J.B. Pritzker and get the problem out by the roots.
Clever.
But images and speeches rarely make an impact with news media coverage alone. A candidate needs money to put those images and zingers in TV ads and to amplify them throughout the online world.
And Bailey still has no money to do that. His principal backer, billionaire Richard Uihlein, came in relatively late but big during the primary. So, maybe hell eventually do that again. Bailey has not yet shown any ability to raise substantial money on his own, either before the primary or since. Baileys only reported contribution last week was just $1,000.
Since the primary, Uihlein has contributed $20 million to Dan Profts People Who Play by the Rules PAC. Proft, a talk-radio host and political activist, aired some super-solid TV ads on Baileys behalf during the primary, so at first, I didnt think it was a huge deal. Instead, Proft has reverted back to running the type of ads that didnt win many elections when he was involving himself in legislative races (mainly with Uihleins money). His past few ads, costing $1.8 million at the time of this writing, simply feature unknown people who appear to be talking to an unseen interviewer just off-camera.
None of Profts independent expenditure ads mention Bailey by name. Pritzker isnt even featured. If, as I suspect, Uihlein ultimately wants Proft to take the helm of Baileys campaign, then Proft isnt auditioning well. Baileys own Uihlein-funded primary ads were infinitely superior to whats on TV now. The GOP ticket situation is currently in near-disaster mode, with Bailey under siege, but its gonna be the apocalypse if somebody doesnt do something soon.
Individual candidate speeches usually matter far less after the state fair fades to black. And Bailey showed last week that he is not quite capable of taking reporters questions.
Asked about his specific plan to address gun violence, for instance, Bailey said, it would be nice if we would start obeying and following the laws that we have.
Baileys speech and his Q&A were filled with divisive, unsubtle code words about hard-working people being victimized by their leaders who must now rise up as one and smite their abuser.
But its still much more effective than the stuff Uihlein is paying good money for right now.

While the Steam Deck is a dream device for playing a lot of graphically intense titles on-the-go, the requirement to connect to the internet for many games limits its portability somewhat. This is further compounded by Steams requirement to validate your library online every time (the DRM overlords are always watching).
Emulators (opens in new tab) are not affected by this, but imagine my frustration when I wanted to play some Red Dead Redemption 2 on the train to London, only to see the game repeatedly crash because I didnt properly prepare it for offline mode.
But lucky for you, the Deck has a workaround solution that is similar to Steams offline mode. Offline mode is not airplane mode. Its a way to bypass a lot of the online requirements of many PC games.
So, if you have a long journey ahead of you with little to no internet connectivity, follow these steps to ensure you can play the best Steam Deck games along the way.
The Steam Decks offline mode worked across the vast majority of my games, such as Forza Horizon 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, Hitman 3, God of War and F1 22. But there are certain games, like DiRT Rally 2.0, that override this mode and just dont work.
When it fails you can find yourself stuck in one particular level or the game will just continually crash. Follow the steps below, but dont take this as gospel that all of your favorites work. Make sure you test before your trip!
1. While connected to the internet, make sure you open all the games you want to play, so that any updates have been applied, and any additional software downloads and installs have happened.
2. Play these games for 5-10 minutes while online also. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a good example of why offline mode doesnt work until youve opened it and played it for at least ten minutes in my experience.
3. Once done, quit out of your games, head over to settings, internet and turn on offline mode. Make sure you only put your Steam Deck to sleep. Do not shut it down, as that will restart the need to validate all your games online.
4. And voila! Your games should be playable offline.

Star Treks Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds, and Discovery have earned six Saturn Award nominations.
Star Trek has found a strong second wind with the unofficial start of their second era of Nu Trek. While Discovery, Lower Decks, and Picard failed to nap a lot of success outside of die-hard Trekkers, Strange New Worlds had no problem at all.
The series returned the franchise back to the classic Star Trek that we all love and it paid off. Not only is the series the most popular new streaming show of the early summer, but it also leads the way with four Saturn Award nominations.
In total, Star Trek has six nods, but in only five categories, as Discovery will go toe to toe with Strange New Worlds for Best Science Fiction Series (Streaming). Anson Mount landed a nod for Best Actor in a Streaming Series, while Ethan Peck and Jess Bush both landed nods for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress categories respectively.
Lower Decks got the nod for Best Animated Series, rounding out the nominations.

The Saturn Awards, for fans new to this, are awards that used to be for more fringe content like science-fiction, fantasy, and superhero content. Yet, over the last 25 years, things have changed, and the more niche Saturn Awards have grown in popularity.
While they arent on par with things like the Oscars, nor are they still covering the more fringe content that was once underrepresented, they are still an important figure for those that worry about things like awards and such.

Below Deck crew cleaning scenes are almost a Hallmark of the series as viewers see deckhands endlessly scrubbing the deck and stews vacuuming armoires. And while cleaning a rental space is critical for the guest experience, is all that cleaning truly necessary?
The short answer is: Definitely.
Yacht crews could transfer their skills over to hospitals with their attention to detail and knowledge of what must be done to flip the boat in between charters. This includes exterior required maintenance to the stomach-churning job of picking up after hard partying guests who often miss the toilet when they have to vomit.
Is the deck ever clean even when it looks pretty sparkling? The reason the deck crew do a wash down on a loop is to battle against the damage the salt water and air can do to the boats exterior. Salt kills everything, Captain Clint Jones told Bloomberg.
Jones said that even a splash of seawater and just moving the boat means that the deck crew must spend those hours seen on the show cleaning the deck. HMY Yachts shared that regular exterior cleaning prevents rust and decay on the surfaces. Plus, the exterior of the yacht should be waxed on a regular basis the maintain the integrity of the materials.
Below Deck deckhands often power wash the deck to remove debris on the boat because the lime build-up is common. Most yachts are stocked with an arsenal of heavy-duty cleaning products designed specifically for marine cleaning.
Why are the stews also always cleaning cabins? The Bloomberg writer found that some guests will cut loose a little too much. Sports stars are reputed to be the messiest guests and most prone to trashing vessels, the writer shared. The biggest infraction in recent memory, says a senior YachtLife broker, was a current NBA player who went out on a boat in the morning and had wrecked it by lunch, dousing the interiors in sprayed Champagne, then clogging all of the cabin toilets with his vomit.
Mess and damage from overserved guests arent yachties only concerns. Guests will often slather on sunless tanner and the fallout from doing that was seen on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3. A guest lounged on Parsifal IIIs couches after applying sunless tanner and it stained the couches.
The Bloomberg writer revealed that guests often stain linens and have to be replaced to the tune of $8,000.
Also, using tweezers to remove fried chicken crumbs from the teak isnt uncommon. Plus, the cabin must be so well detailed that using a Q-Tip to clean a bathroom cabinet for an hour may be required. A big tool in the stew pantry is a vacuum cleaner with multiple extensions. Vacuuming walls and outlets are done on a regular basis.
Cleaning the boat is only one part of preparing the boat for charter. Yachties and the Below Deck crew must add that wow factor before and during the charter. Flowers and provisions must be handled and stored. Special cocktails are prepared and the yacht crew has to put on their game face.
Just when youve finished potting that last-minute tree on the aft deck, a call comes over the radio that the bosss plane has just landed and he and his entourage will be there shortly, yachtie Julie Perry shared inWork on a Yacht.
You manage to shower and be on deck just two minutes before they step onfresh plant soil still beneath your fingernails as you shake the owners hand, and with a beaming smile and an energetic voice, say, Welcome aboard, Sir.
