The cast for Season 2 of Ryan Murphys FX anthology Feud is taking shape as several stars sign onto Capotes Women.

Originally meant to focus on Princess Diana and Prince Charles, this second long-awaited entry will instead focus on the tension between Truman Capotes friends and members of New York high society. Excerpts from the writers unfinished novel Answered Prayers will be used in the tell-all about the citys elite.

Debuting in 2017 with Feud: Bette and Joan, the first season focused on the rivalry between Joan Crawford and Bette Davis during the making of the 1962 film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon led the cast of the first entry.

Interior design may seem superfluous for families with extraordinary needs, but Dallas-based designer Shelly Rosenberg argues the opposite. Interior designers and architects actually have a bigger impact on your health and wellness than medical practitioners, because we spend so much of our time inside our homes, she reasons.

As a mom of three children with different learning styles and challenges, Rosenberg has spent more than 20 years making her house safe, comfortable, and optimized for their well-being. In 2019 she founded Acorn & Oak, which offers services to help parents design inclusive spaces for children with special needs, as well as organic weighted blankets and mattresses to help with sensory regulation. I just feel like this is truly my lifes work, she says.

For Rosenberg, designing adaptive and inclusive spaces is essential, not only for the person with the diagnosis but for all members of the family. As your child grows and youre out in public, you can start to see where the world isnt built as inclusively as we would like, she explains. Youre seeing a lot of physical barriers, but also emotional and mental barriers out in the real world. After a long day of maneuvering around public spaces that arent very equitable, going back to an accessible, toxin-free home provides ease and peace for everyone.

So how should you address the not-so-obvious issues to help make your home more inclusive? Rosenberg says that it goes back to the five senses.

The way a space looks is top of mind when it comes to interiors, but aesthetics are only part of the design equation. Sight is super-important because thats where most of us get a majority of our information, and we cant have sight without light, Rosenberg asserts. Light subconsciously speaks to our brain and tells it what to do: A bright blue glow alerts the nervous system to wake up; full-spectrum task lighting helps maintain focus; and warm red tones stimulate melatonin for relaxation. Adding a simple dimmer switch can help guide a childs behavior throughout the day.

Patterns and colors can also trigger different reactions. For an anxious child who is more of a sensory avoider than seeker, wild patterns and bright colors could negatively affect their safe, quiet space. Better to reserve those elements in a playroom where you want to encourage high energy.

Whether your child loves sensory stimulation or withdraws from it, Rosenberg recommends exposing them to different spaces to build their tolerance and flexibility in a world that isnt always inclusive or accessible. Visitors will benefit from the variety, too. Rosenberg explains, You might be a big family of stimulus seekers but, occasionally, youre going to have people come over who arent, so it might be nice to have an area where you can say, You know, this feels like its a little too much for you. Why dont we go in this room?

When her energy is spent, Rosenberg enjoys a bit of sensory deprivation in a low-light, silent spot. I want to completely check out at the end of the day, she says, laughing. Adding noise-dampening objects like rugs, drapery, and felt wall tiles can conjure a cavelike ambience.

On the flip side, dark and quiet can feel very uncomfortable to some people, she notes. They dont have any way of judging whats around them or whats going on, and that brings up a lot of fear. She recommends filling the void with music: Classical lullabies, even birdsong, can help deregulate bodies after a trip to the trampoline park. White noise is popular for sleep, but Rosenberg suggests subbing in lesser known brown noise, which is deeper and lower on the sound spectrum and has more variation (think: rolling waves or thunder).

The laundry, the dog, the steak cooking on the grillscents are all around us even if we dont register them. I feel like sometimes in our own homes, we get numb to different fragrances, says Rosenberg. But for someone who is especially sensory sensitive, even a floral candle can become overwhelming. Rosenberg suggests using a purifier to create a neutral environment: Not only will it remove errant odors, it will help eliminate invisible elements like mold, allergens, and toxic VOCs that come from carpeting, paint, plastic toys, and furnishings. Instead of artificial sprays, opt for the purest essential oils you can find, which can either energize (like eucalyptus or citrus scents) or calm (lavender is always popular) depending on your needs.

Another tip? Invite your best friend over to audit your home for problem areas with a fresh nose. Sometimes I have friends come over and go, Whats this or that? And Im like, You know what? I didnt even notice that, Rosenberg admits.

Babies love to explore their environments through their mouths and readily absorb everything they touch. Organic textiles and low-to-no-VOC furnishings reign supreme for new parents and high-needs households alike. For everyone else, Rosenberg says to think of water.

Purifying the water that comes into our homesand, ultimately, into our bodieshelps reduce the bacteria, heavy metals, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals that we get exposed to. This can be as simple as using a Brita filter for drinking water or as complex as installing a water-purification system (which Rosenberg says can cost roughly $3,000 and last up to 10 years). Its also worth noting that we soak in more when our pores are open, which tends to happen in a warm bath, so adding a filter for the showerhead and filling the tub that way is an easy, impactful switch.

What feels comforting to you isnt universal, especially for someone who is particularly sensitive to textures. Ive had plenty of clients say they cant stand wool or hate velvet, says Rosenberg. I have a mohair couch that I love because the fabric wears like iron and its luxurious and beautiful. All three of my kids say its prickly and they dont like it. Which textiles are by and large cozy yet safe? Rosenberg often opts for durable, organic fabrics like cotton and linen.

Weighted blankets are also great because they help release serotonin and melatonin to help kids (and grown-ups) wind down. Most are made with plastic pellets, but Acorn & Oaks are filled with hypoallergenic glass sand and constructed with GOTS-certified organic cotton. A travel version thats only five pounds is perfect for plane rides or post-park car rides. (One of Rosenbergs favorite therapies is deep-pressure stimulation, in which gentle pressure is applied to the body to relax the nervous system.)

Theres no need to gut renovate every room. Rosenberg suggests going slow, and in the meantime, tidying up where you can: More than ever, to have a little haven where you can really connectit is the stage that youre setting for the most intimate memories youll have in your life.

The Danish government published new positive lists for highly educated and skilled workers from other countries earlier in July in order to meet the labour shortages that Denmark has been dealing with.

The Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI) explains that the Positive List for people with a Higher Education includes a total of 45 job titles, whereas the Positive List for Skilled Workers includes 46 titles.

This means that 91 nationals of other countries can apply for one of these jobs in Denmark provided that they are eligible, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

SIRI has already published an overview of the job titles on the positive lists for highly educated and skilled workers.

600 questions will be asked to the workers over the 12 hours, with the hope to inspire conversations. A chef, nursery worker or a drone operator might share the space with an astrophysicist, ICU nurse or Uber driver. 12 Last Songs is directed by Quarantines Artistic Director Richard Gregory and premiered at Leeds Playhouse in 2021.

Quarantine is a Manchester-based ensemble of artists and producers making original theatre, performance and public events since 1998. United by an interest in what it means to be alive right now, they have achieved international acclaim for work that is intellectually rigorous, radical in form, and unique in character.

12 Last Songs is a live portrait of place and people set around the usual question asked when we meet someone new; what do you do?. Audiences see different fragments of society come together, with work becoming a way to talk about how we see the world and our place in it.

Richard Gregory, Quarantines Co-Artistic Director said: Quarantine has always been interested in who people are and how they experience the world. Maybe in all our work, theres this kind of simultaneous concern with whats going on at this moment in time and how to invent a language of performance to talk about that.

12 Last Songs features 24 workers from Manchester. It constructs a fleeting portrait of society as a live exhibition of people, in a performance that documents the steady rhythms of working life on a large scale. From midday to midnight, workers will perform paid shifts of their usual jobs within the unique setting of the gallery space at HOME. A builder might build a wall, a hairdresser might cut someones hair and a chef might prepare a meal.

When the work premiered as a co-production with Transform Festival at Leeds Playhouse in 2021, audiences were treated to witnessing an opera singer perform, a cook making dinner for everyone in the room, and a lecture on the birth canal from a midwife. There was a local MP, an imam and an ex-prisoner in conversation, and an astrophysicist giving a lecture about the solar system. The longest shift comes from a painter and decorator who works for 10 hours, wallpapering walls that mark the passing of time.

A multitude of job roles and professions will be represented in this iteration of 12 Last Songs. The selected workers represent diverse forms of labour spanning all walks of life. 600 questions are asked during the 12 hours by 3 Quarantine performers, providing a structural frame for the organic process of curating the group of workers. Questions can be work-related like how do you travel to work? or how much do you earn? as well as more intimate like do you have enough friends? or who do you love?.

Richard Gregory, Quarantines Co-Artistic Director said: Our theatres are important civic spaces and we question who gets to have a voice within them. With 12 Last Songs, we invite people together who might not normally share the same space. We mix experienced performers with people whove never done anything like this before.

Want to use eco-friendly building materials in your home? There are plenty of products out there that are genuinely greener options perhaps because theyre made using renewable resources, are created with recycled materials, or they result in better indoor air quality for your home.

But there are also options that make claims to being green while offering very little in the way of environmental benefits and this can make choosing a genuinely eco-friendly item hard.

To help, weve put together a guide to the eco-friendly building materials that are available for your eco home improvements, outlining why theyre a greener choice.

Some options are better for our wellbeing and that of the planet. On the whole, healthy building materials contain less embodied carbon and are less likely to emit toxic VOCs (volatile organic compounds), ensuring better air quality inside our homes. They are also likely to be recyclable or reusable.

Our guide lists the eco-friendly building materials to look out for when youre shopping for wood, insulation, flooring, roofing and more.

When it comes to building a house or an addition, look for sustainably sourced timber whether it forms part of the internal structure or plays a more obvious role, for example in wood-framed buildings, or for wood siding.

Look for Forest Stewardship Program (opens in new tab) (FSP) accreditation when buying wood. The non-profit FSC sets standards for forest management around the world with the aim of meeting current needs for forest products without compromising the health of the worlds forests.

Another option for wood trim and millwork is to reuse, visiting salvage yards or architectural antique stores. This is a great way to add character, too. And consider the reuse option for siding as well: you may be able to source reclaimed wood siding materials from building supply stores and salvage yards.

Some architects and housebuilders are specifying buildings made of cob, which is a subsoil containing clay and straw. While its labour intensive, its virtually zero carbon and the walls are very thick, meaning the thermal efficiency inside is sound.

Similarly, straw bales can be used not only alongside timber but as a load-bearing material that can support a roof structure. These are generally finished with lime render (see below) to create a breathable fabric.

Be sure to check with the local building department to ascertain if you need a permit if youre planning to use either of these eco-friendly building materials.

Versatile and natural, lime was used in the construction of nearly all surviving old buildings in Britain to form the binder for mortars, plasters, render and washes. Now lime-based materials are becoming mainstream with low-carbon construction systems.

Lime-based materials let structures breathe and move gently, which is essential for old buildings, says Douglas Kent of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (opens in new tab). It helps them keep their natural equilibrium, controlling moisture and dampness, thereby offering health benefits and internal comfort.

Cork is another renewable natural material and one thats recyclable and biodegradable. Whats used is the bark from cork oak trees, which is carefully harvested from the trees; the long-lived trees themselves are not cut down, and the trunks are not damaged. The bark is renewed and it wont be harvested from an individual tree again for another nine years.

Think cork for flooring but also as a thermal and acoustic insulator. UK-based specialist builder Moulding (opens in new tab) has recently used a cork-based lime plaster on the inside face of all external walls of a large historic house as a sort of eco-friendly form of cladding.

The cork additive provides an extra layer of thermal performance and raises the U-value [the level of thermal transmittance] of the wall, says director Tim Moulding.

As weve seen above, cork is one of the eco-friendly building materials that can be used as insulation, but there are a plethora of other options. Products derived from materials including wood, wool and hemp, as well as cork, can be used in lieu of conventional insulation. Do bear in mind with all eco-friendly insulation options that they may be more expensive than their non-natural cousins.

Wool

Wool is one of the most popular: the benefit is that its 100 per cent recyclable, whereas most plastic insulation ends up in landfill. Wool also outperforms plastic when it comes to acoustics, thanks to its high density and soft fibrous quality, and can also retain heat better than plastic and mineral wool. This means it can absorb heat, which addresses a concern that as the planet heats up, houses that arent designed to withstand rising temperatures are going to overheat.

Soy-based

Insulation made partly with soybeans is another greener option for insulating a home. Soybeans are a renewable resource and the insulation has a high R-value, or thermal resistance.

Cellulose

Cellulose insulation is manufactured using shredded newspapers so makes use of recycled materials. It is treated to make it fire retardant. It can be used for attics as well as walls.

Denim

Insulation made using a high percentage of denim and cotton recycles these materials, keeping them out of landfill. Its a good acoustic as well as thermal insulator and easy to handle.

Plastic

Plastic bottles can also be recycled to help create insulation for a home, helping to keep them out of landfill and the oceans.

If you want to make a lower environmental impact with roofing, there are a few different options to consider.

Green roofs

Planted with dense vegetation green roofs have many eco benefits including insulation, rainwater harvesting and stormwater retention. It can also mean a longer lifespan for the roof.

Wood shakes

As with other wood, think FSC certification if youve decided on wood shakes for the roof to ensure the timber comes from sustainably managed forests.

Shingle

Look for shingles made from recycled materials such as plastic, which keeps these materials out of landfill and reduces the use of new materials. A long lifespan also makes this a greener option.

Metal

A metal roof can be manufactured from recycled materials, and can be recycled at the end of its life, which is a long one.

Reclaimed slate or clay

Use reclaimed slate or clay tile to complement a homes architecture and reuse what might otherwise become waste.

Rubber

Shingles made from recycled materials including rubber from old tires make use of waste and are a durable roofing material.

Cork (see above) might already be on your list as renewable natural material for flooring. So, too, might wood and, here again, think FSC-certified products from well-managed forests, or opt for salvaged wood flooring to add character.

And there are other eco-friendly possibilities for flooring when youre remodeling:

Linoleum

You might be surprised to discover that, unlike vinyl, linoleum is made from natural materials, including linseed oil, pine resin, and wood flour. Its one of the greenest flooring options available.

Bamboo

Bamboo flooring might have the look of wood but its actually a fast-growing grass and sustainable.

Metal

Metals can be recycled to create floor tiles, so investing in this as flooring helps keep the materials out of landfill.

Choosing eco-friendly paints made with water rather than solvents means a lower level of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can have detrimental effects on health and lower levels of chemicals that harm the environment.

Since not all paints labelled as eco are equal, it pays to check out what theyre made from. The most eco-friendly options are made only from natural ingredients, and have low levels of VOCs.

If youre in need of caulks, adhesives and sealants, just as with paints, be aware of VOC levels, and opt for zero or low levels to avoid pollution.

Which other eco-friendly building materials should you look out for when youre remodeling? Recycled glass can be used for tile and countertops; if youre choosing wallpaper, you can select those made from paper originating from sustainable forests plus solvent-free paste; and you can opt for drywall thats made from agricultural waste.

The answer to what is the most eco-friendly building material depends on the definition you use, but bamboo is the number one for many experts. Thats because it grows fast; it has high strength and is very durable; and it is light to transport.

Think about using bamboo in flooring and countertops, and as lumber and veneer, suggests Lucy Searle, global editor in chief of Homes & Gardens. Bear in mind, though, that using bamboo flooring in a bathroom isnt generally recommended nor should you use it in other areas that are subject to excess moisture as it can become damaged.

Other top choices if you want to be as eco-friendly as possible include cork, and sheeps wool for various elements of your home.

Wood is an eco-friendly material, providing it comes from well managed forests. Its a renewable resource and it can also be recycled at the end of its life. Manufacturing of wood products can also be achieved with very little waste.

All goods are manufactured with raw materials obtained from the Earth. By far, wood use has the least number of negative aspects and, in fact, actually has a range of positive impacts, says Bill Cook,Michigan State University Extension (opens in new tab).
