Exhibiz general manager Pakwan Jiamjiroj, whose company is helping organise the Thailand Lighting Fair 2015, said Messer Frankfurt was adding Bangkok to its series of annual lighting exhibitions.

Messer Frankfurt organises lighting fairs in many countries, including the Light+Building exhibition in Germany and the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition in China, the world's largest lighting fair.

Nikom Lertmalligaporn, a representative of Messer Frankfurt in Thailand, said the organiser would hold roadshows in a few provinces, such as Phuket, Udon Thani and Ubol Ratchathani, as well as in Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China to promote the event.

It will be held at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre from August 19 to 21.

Messer Frankfurt has recognised the fact that Thailand is the biggest lighting market in Asean, he said.

Vilas Ngamsangroongsaroj, deputy governor of fair sponsor the Provincial Electricity Authority, said more than 250 companies had agreed to join the event, including manufacturers and merchants from Thailand and other Asian countries such as China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, India, Singapore and Malaysia.

Thailand's lighting and equipment market was estimated to be worth Bt30 billion in 2014, up 12 per cent from the previous year.

The market is growing remarkably fast thanks to the rising adoption of LED (light emitting diodes) lighting technology, which is expected to increase its share in the household segment from 10 to 20 per cent at present to 50 per cent within the next two to three years.

Targeted exhibitors include commercial, decorative, LED/green, outdoor/urban, residential, and smart lighting companies, as well as lighting accessories, parts and components companies.

The organisers expect to attract between 5,000 and 10,000 visitors to the fair, including designers and planners, engineers and builders, industry end-users, traders and manufacturers, government ministries, and energy-efficiency organisations.
