One of the most widely published photographers of contemporary architecture, Iwan Baan is noted for his documentary images that narrate the life and interactions occurring within architecture. We met the Amsterdam-born photographer at work in the northern French town of Lens, where he captured the poetic architecture of the new Louvre for ERCO. In our film interview Baan, who is in his mid-thirties, sheds light on his photographic style, his approach to architecture, and his first camera.

The Dpartement Pas-de-Calais has always been known for its coal and heavy industry. The Louvre Lens has now added an attraction which, at first glance, appears far removed from its surroundings. It is a branch of the Louvre in Paris and yet conceptually of unusual compactness and rather unlike its big brother. Thanks to the architects of SANAA in Tokyo and the lighting designers of Arup in London, the Louvre Lens has become a milestone in the worldwide museum landscape.

Founded in 1970, the Levy Gallery has since been synonymous with Pop Art and Surrealism. The loft-like ambience on the outskirts of Eppendorf appeals to visitors with its open architecture as much as the enchanted sculpture garden with its fascinating interplay of art and nature. As a first rate gallery, the Levy Gallery exclusively represents such artists as Allen Jones, C.O. Paeffgen, Mel Ramos and Daniel Spoerri. The new lighting concept underlines the high standards set by Thomas Levy and his team.

In 1969 the Kunsthalle Rostock was the first modern exhibition venue for contemporary art in the GDR. It was considered the "gateway to the world" in a society otherwise largely cut off from the international cultural landscape. Today the Art Hall offers regional, national and international artists a forum set off by the accent lighting of Pollux spotlights.

ERCOs four downlight ranges manage in striking fashion to bring light into your architecture. Focus is given to delivering a perfectly coordinated lighting experience without special emphasis on the luminaires - no matter the spatial situation.

The open architecture of the Louvre Lens masterminded by SANAA, the sober setting and the comprehensive museum concept establish a fascinating dialogue. ERCO spoke to the museum director Xavier Dectot, the exhibition designer Adrien Gardre and the lighting designer Jeff Shaw about the ideas behind this project.

Uniquely compact, yet highly efficient and powerful, for accentuating light and projection effects: these are the additions to the Pollux range with LED spotlights in a new and clear design and a projector spotlight with framing attachment as a highlight.
