Mangalore, Feb 2: For the benefit of the people of my ward, I have opened up another office in the MCC building in Lalbagh, said Mohiuddin Bava, MLA Mangalore North, addressing media persons in the MCC Conference Hall on Saturday February 1.

Under my jurisdiction, there are nearly 23 wards and 10 panchayats like Neermarga, Kandavara, Ullaibettu, Ganjimutt, and other regions. Nearly 11 wards are under Suratkal and others fall under MCC limits. The North MLA office is situated in Suratkal and the people of the constituency have to suffer a lot as they have to come all the way to Suratkal to meet the MLA. So, for the convenience of the people of the city regions, another MLA office has been opened up in the MCC building in Lalbagh. The office was inaugurated on Friday January 31 and the exact time of my availability there will be made known very soon, he added.

Various developmental projects have been planned in my constituency. Fisheries port in Kulai is one of the prime projects that is to be constructed. The total cost of the project is Rs 152 crore and nearly 120 fishing boats can be anchored in the jetty that is proposed to be constructed here. This project is to fulfill the long term dreams of the fisheries-oriented people of the region. The project has been carried out under priority basis and to be finished at the earliest. The MLA fund is to be spent more on Gurpur parish as the development in the corporation limits can be carried out under the SFC funds and other funds. An amount of Rs 15 lac has been sanctioned to all the 23 wards and basic development has been carried out in these wards. Road and drainage facilities have been undertaken on a priority basis everywhere. Electricity supply to wet wells is planned to be given soon, added Bava.

As promised to the people of Suratkal and surroundings with regard to the implementation of new RTO in Suratkal, a building has already been taken on rent and the basic facilities have already been installed. As soon as the officials and inspectors are appointed, the RTO will be operational, most probably by this month end.

"A meeting with the officers of MRPL has been held as under the CSR Fund, the companies have to set aside two percent of their annual profit for the welfare of the people. A majority of the companies are under my jurisdiction like MRPL, MCF, BSF, HPCL, and hence we have planned to utilize the entire amount for the welfare of the surrounding region and not for any other projects, he further added.

There are three acres of land in Suratkal that belong to the health department. A proposal has been set forth before the state government for the construction of a 60-bed government hospital at the venue, which is likely to be taken up at the earliest. Tourism is another prime sector we are focusing on. A proposal for a cricket stadium is awaiting approval. Special police protection and tightening of law and order has been ordered as communal clashes have been seen increasing in some places. Ive spoken to both the parties and urged them to maintain peace and harmony," he said.

"With regard to the upcoming MP elections, I am ready to work for and support any candidate which the high command selects. With relation to the transformation of Mangalore City Corporation to Greater Mangalore City Corporation, I have clearly opposed the proposal and have sent an objection letter to the chief minister also, he said.
