A HUD renovation of a housing apartment complex in Oklahoma City is the newest site of a green community cleanup in Oklahoma City. The 30-unit apartment home complex is being cleared out over the next few weeks by SERVPRO. The nationwide company specializes in disaster response, water and fire damage renovation and mold remediation, and took over this project at the beginning of March.

ATRS Recyclers were placed on site to collect abandoned recyclable clothing, shoes, toys, bedding and all other household textile materials.

Several other area businesses from the environmental sector responded to collaborate on the cleanup initiative and ensure that leftover home goods do not end up in the trash. Textiles, electronics and home appliances are amongst the many items that will be collected by onsite work crews and diverted from Oklahoma City landfill. This is a great example of community collaboration to properly reuse, repurpose and recycle salvageable goods.

Within one week ATRS Recycling has recovered close to 1000 lbs. of textile material that will be given a second life. All textile items abandoned by former residents are being collected and classified by fiber and type. Unusual items found in the apartments range from 35 pairs of miscellaneous baby shoes to microwaves and other kitchen appliances that were uncovered as the apartment homes were combed through one by one.

ATRS Recycling projects that another 1000 lbs. of recyclable textile material will be recovered from these homes before the completion of the clean up at the end of the week.

"We are excited to partner with American Textile Recycling Service on this clean out," says Jed Boersma, Business Development Manager at SERVPRO. "We are passionate about providing resources to those in need and keeping more waste out of landfills."

ATRS Clothing & Shoe Recyclers are located throughout the State of Oklahoma and provide year round drop-off points for gently used, outgrown and unwanted clothing, shoes, toys and household textiles. Each recycler benefits local charities like Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Every pound collected is weighed and provides an ongoing monthly stream of revenue for local programs and services.

To find a recycler near you, call the 24-Hour Hotline at 866.900-9308 or visit the ATRS Company Site.
