In a statement here today, Sime Darby Berhad said Sime Darby Plantation has had several discussions both internally and with external stakeholders on recurring problems associated with traditional land clearing methods in Indonesia.

"Sime Darby Plantation recognises that current discussions are mainly about responsibility for land, and accountability for activities that occur therein," it said.

The company has also engaged with the natural resources and environment ministry to discuss the issues faced, with a view towards providing any and all assistance to the authorities in resolving the issues.

Sime Darby Plantation will maintain the current boundaries of its operating areas and will continue to work closely with the local authorities and educate local communities on sustainable farming practices.

"Sime Darby Plantation is willing to discuss this with the Indonesian authorities to seek an equitable solution to the problem," it said. -- BERNAMA
