Minister must explain why he is unable to say anything on illegal land-clearing in Cameron Highlands.

KUALA LUMPUR: Natural Resources and Environment Minister G Palanivel must break his silence and name the mastermind behind the illegal land-clearing in Cameron Highlands if it is true that he has the information, Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo said today.

Palanivel was reported by Bernama to have said that he knows of their existence and has photographic evidence but still unable to control them.

The minister had also said he could not reveal too much.

I demand that Palanivel speak up. First, he must state if the Bernama report is correct. Then if it is, explain why he is unable to say anything on this matter, said Gobind.

People have suffered great losses. Why is he frightened? Who or what is he afraid of? What could be more important now other than assisting the victims if he has the information and ensuring this doesnt happen again? he asked.

Gobind said as a minister and peoples representative he was duty-bound to speak up on the issue.

He said if he could not speak up, then he should resign both as minister and MP of Cameron Highlands.

The Deputy Prime Minister who chaired the special meeting on floods and landslides in Cameron Highlands yesterday should respond to the revelation by Palanivel, he said.
