A long-established Fort Lauderdale home remodeling business plans to expand this year to the Downtown Oakland Park Culinary Arts District.

Allied Kitchen & Bath said Tuesday it will open an additional showroom at 3484 NE 12th Ave. featuring kitchen and bathroom models, cabinetry displays and other home fixtures and appliances.

Allied's main showroom is at 616 W. Oakland Park Blvd.

The 30-year-old company plans to occupy about half of the new 20,000-square-foot space and lease the remaining room to culinary-related tenants, said Bill Feinberg, Allied's president. Restaurants, culinary schools and catering businesses are good fits, he said.

"We want to make sure we drive traffic to the city and that our building stands out," Feinberg said.

Allied's new site the former Sikes Tile Distributors building will be remodeled this summer and is expected to be ready by the end of the year.

"The activity generated within the culinary arts district has happened at an extremely rapid pace, and we're thrilled with the interest in the district," said Allison Justice, senior project manager for Redevelopment Management Associates, a Pompano Beach firm consulting Oakland Park's growing district.
