Florence -- With the holiday season fast approaching, it's not too early to begin making plans.

This month, Pueblo West interior designer Valorie Hornsby will teach a holiday decorating class from 9:30 a.m. to noon Nov. 10 in the Mezzanine Antiques & Collectibles 127 W. Main St. in Florence.

The class is filled with holiday ideas and tips for Thanksgiving and Christmas, a flyer said. Learn about the history of the two holidays and the importance of celebrating and creating holiday traditions with family. A fee will be charged, but includes handouts and a gift bag filled with goodies, as well as a chance to be part of the three drawings for a fun Christmas handmade dcor item.

During the day, the store will provide refreshments, as well as drawings for free gifts.

At the same time, the Mezzanine recently began to expand into a new direction with what it offers in the store.

"We're adding another dimension," said co-owner Laurie Aves. "We're still going to have all the antiques that we had then we're bringing in artisans."

The selection will include custom made cottage style merchandise, hand sewn kitchen items, greeting cards, collage art, copper art, 'bunchkin' critters and many other items in Artisans' Alley in the upstairs portion of the Mezzanine. Also, a space has been designed for local patrons who would like to teach classes.

The idea came about when Hornsby approached Aves about bringing artisans into the store.

"She came to us with the idea this is hot up in (Colorado) Springs," she said. "We have been looking for a direction to go (instead) of only antiques."
