First woman Christ Church dean is on a mission

CINCINNATI - The Very Reverend Gail E.Greenwellis the first female dean for Christ Church Cathedral, and one of six women to lead the 95 cathedrals in the U.S.

Installed as dean of the downtown cathedral in April 2014, it was not until her late30sthatGreenwellbegan to discern the possibility of priesthood in the Episcopal Church. She had been a teacher in Rainier and Portland, Oregon, and had a 17-year career in interior design.

She remained active in her LakeOswego, Oregon congregationwhen her children were small, and prior to her ordination, was the interim director of Christian Formation at the church.

Of her career change, she said, "I don't think it surprised my children as much as my husband. We took the journey as a family."
