New Delhi, Nov. 13 -- A 22-year-old interior decorator, who had been married earlier this year, was found dead in mysterious circumstances at her east Delhi residence early on Monday morning, police said.

While her in-laws claimed she had committed suicide due to depression, the victim's family said she was harassed for dowry by her husband and his family.

The victim, identified as Payal Durga, was allegedly found hanging from the ceiling fan at her house in Shakarpur's Bank Enclave around 5:30am.

She used to work as a freelance interior decorator.

"According to her husband, who runs a small furniture business, she committed suicide by using a stole to hang herself from the ceiling fan in her bedroom. No suicide note has been recovered," said an officer.

Since the period of marriage was found to be below seven years, an enquiry into the case has been ordered.

Her body has been sent for a post mortem examination.
