After a successful debut last year with a Northern Lights theme, the Myriad Gardens is bringing back the immersive, high-tech, nontraditional light show this year with a celestial theme inspired by Vincent van Gogh's famed painting "Starry Night."

"Illuminations" encompasses the entire Crystal Bridge, which serves as a canvas for moving light choreographed to music, inviting visitors inside for a curated, immersive light experience.

"Illuminations: Starry Starry Night" is designed to capture the unique lighting of a winter sky. Features this year include a lighted tunnel along the upper walkway of the Crystal Bridge and a special display in the area of the north side called the Oculus Room. Back for a second year will be the spinning hybycozo lamps. These geometric, iridescent sculptural lights cast out intricate shapes and shadows and are associated with Burning Man, the annual summertime community gathering in the Nevada desert.

Another highlight of "Illuminations" are the rare and beautiful plants inside the conservatory, as well as a 15-foot poinsettia tree, which will be lit with specialty lights, in the center of the bridge.

"Our 2020 'Illuminations' is meant to add some holiday magic to the downtown with a creative indoor light effects show that is unique and engaging for all ages," said Myriad Gardens Foundation Executive Director Maureen Heffernan in an email.Musical selections are purposefully curated to integrate with the lighting and will be holiday-themed. The installation is designed by Lightswitch, a consortium of internationally recognized lighting, media and visual designers, according to a news release.

"Illuminations: Starry Starry Night" is open 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday through Jan. 5. It will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but open on New Years Eve. Special holiday hours will be offered 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 30.
