PITTSBURGH, PA - Power management company Eaton today announced the launch of the Pow-R-Command intelligent panelboard, engineered to help industrial and commercial facilities maximize energy performance. By providing a full range of lighting control, dimming and daylight harvesting capabilities, the new system can reduce heating, ventilation and air conditioning load requirements and lighting energy usage by as much as 41 percent.

Lighting systems are among the largest consumers of energy in most commercial and industrial buildings, said Alan Wyant, product manager at Eaton. To help our customers address this challenge, weve designed a scalable family of solutions that can optimize lighting performance and reduce costs in facilities of any size.

The innovative Pow-R-Command system goes beyond lighting control with the ability to manage non-lighting loads to provide additional energy savings and a flexible solution for demand-response schemes. The system also integrates lighting control and branch circuit protection in a single, compact enclosure to reduce required wall space by 50 percent and provide up to 50 percent installation labor savings.

Additionally, a compartment behind the display allows for safe access to low voltage communications and input/output connections without removing the panelboard trim or deadfront. This design increases safety by preventing service personnel from coming into contact with live components, and reduces the need for a qualified electrician with personal protective equipment to assist in troubleshooting.

To simplify scheduling and programming changes, an intuitive, high-resolution color touchscreen is located on the front panel of the device. The display provides a local means for system status data and override control. The Pow-R-Command system also includes pre-configured Web pages to allow easy schedule changes and system monitoring.

A range of communication options are available to provide facility managers with centralized programming, status and control, as well as convenient access to local and remote controllers via application software. The communication options are designed to integrate with other facility management systems to provide unified control and monitoring of facility assets.

The Pow-R-Command system is available for new and retrofit installations in a scalable architecture that provides facilities with the capability to cost-effectively meet future needs. Implementation of the lighting and load management system can contribute to U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits for Light Pollution Reduction and Indoor Environmental Quality; Controllability of Systems, Lighting; and Innovation in Design.

The Pow-R-Command intelligent panelboard can also help facilities meet the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers 90.1-2010 as well as the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code building standards which dictate that automatic, multi-level daylighting controls must be installed in enclosed spaces with side lit areas greater than 250 square feet and all top lit areas greater than 900 square feet.
