Realtor Ranjay Singhs Ancaster-based Rocket Homes and Property Management is facing a $25,000 fine for failing to abide by the rules of the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act.

The fine was levied in Hamilton Provincial Offences Court March 10 for Singhs alleged failure to register as a builder and failing to enrol two homes with Tarion Warranty Corporation. Under the new home warranty act, home builders are required to register as a builder and enrol, before construction, every new home with the private corporation that regulates the new home building industry in Ontario.

Singh, known in the community as Rocket Roger or Roger Singh, was once registered with Tarion, but was refused registration by a legal tribunal in 2010.

Melissa Yollick, senior manager, corporate communications for Tarion, said the organization generally does not publicly disclose why a builders licence is refused.

Tarion has the authority to revoke a builders registration and may take that action for a number of reasons, she stated in an email. Some examples include when a builder breaches terms and conditions of registration, if a builder has after-sales service issues, construction performance issues, or for financial reasons.

Since losing his registration, Tarion claims Singh has built and sold two new homes one in Hamilton and another in Ancaster.

However, Singh denies the allegations and said he plans to appeal the provincial offences court conviction.

I missed the court date, and Ive talked to my lawyer and were in the midst of an appeal, he said.

Singh added Tarions facts are not even correct in terms of the location of the two homes. Singh maintains he built a home in Stoney Creek for himself and a second Hamilton home that he plans to rent to students.
