SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Thanks to home surveillance, police may be closer to solving a string of larcenies in Tittabawassee Township.

Police said home surveillance kits are becoming more and more common. TV5 took a dive into home security and found there are many ways to protect your home, even on the cheap.

"It is truly amazing what has happened to these," assistant store manager Mike Stowe of Home Depot on Bay Road said.

Home surveillance systems, which were once reserved for the wealthy, are becoming more affordable options for protecting your home.

Stowe said there are a variety to choose from on any budget.

"Two hundred dollars up to $2,700 of different surveillance equipment you can get," Stowe said.

With high-definition picture quality and smart phone-integrated options, homeowners can now get a close-up of a criminal's mug with the flick of a finger.

"Anywhere in the world you can look on your phone and, if you get the app, look to see what's going on inside your home," Stowe said.

Stowe said the most popular item is actually a decoy camera that will run you about $30.
