HOME Secretary Theresa May made a flying visit to Rugby for a tour of the town centre's CCTV centre.

She spoke with control staff and the rangers during her hour-long visit on Friday, and spoke with Rugby First boss Aftab Gaffar about the successful ShopNet and PubWatch schemes.

"She liked the fact that we had created an umbrella system where rangers, CCTV, Pubwatch, Shopnet and the police all work together in providing a deterrent to criminals and ultimately a safe and welcoming town centre for all those who live, work or visit Rugby," he said.

"As a BID she recognised the excellent work we were doing for the town and felt that we offered a best practise model for the rest of the country and something we can indeed be very proud of in Rugby."
