Quite a few of us have spent sleepless nights waging war with our burglar alarm as it deafens our ears with its exploding noise in the middle of the night.

More than often its a false alarm theres something wrong with the battery or maybe the controllers malfunctioning, resulting in stress and worry and a street full of annoyed neighbours.

And no one knows this better than Dan Conlon, whos had a fair share of burglar alarm problems and decided it was time to build his own home security system known as Cocoonthats currently being crowd-funded on Indiegogo.

The alarm that came with my first house never recovered from the night I had to borrow a ladder to silence (by that I mean, destroy) the confused external siren when the controller when awry, says Conlon.

And my troubled relationship with security systems continued at my first business (Donhost). We won a court case against ADT after they failed to provide the contracted police notification service when our ADT alarm went off.

Which is why Conlon decided to take matters into his own hands and build Cocoon a security system that allowed the owner to have complete control over the device and was easy to use.

I wanted a security product I wouldnt have to set or have installed that would alert someone who cares when something real happens, says the 32-year-old Leeds-based inventor.
