Libertyville, IL (PRWEB) March 27, 2014

The Ford Plantation, a residential community and private sporting club near Savannah, Georgia, is currently undergoing an extensive restoration of its Pete Dye golf course under the direct supervision of Pete Dye and golf course architect Tim Liddy. The restoration started in the fall of 2013 and is due to be completed in the fall of 2014.

Southeast Discovery, a company that helps buyers actively looking for a retirement or second home in the Southeast select appropriate master-planned communities or general real estate in the region, sees this as positive and exciting news for buyers looking to relocate to a premier Georgia golf and sporting community.

The Ford Plantation's Pete Dye golf course restoration is an extensive reconstruction, occurring at a time when few golf courses are being built in the United States. There are only a handful of new courses under construction, and according to the USGA, more golf courses are closing than opening, said Marian Schaffer, Principal and Founder of Southeast Discovery. The Pete Dye course restoration signals the financial stability of The Ford Plantations private club, and its members ongoing commitment to capital improvements.

The restoration will likely be the most extensive reconstruction project of a course in the United States in 2014, and will be overseen by Dye, who just celebrated his 88th birthday. Originally designed by Dye in the 1980s, The Ford Plantation golf course features a front nine designed around 250 acres of freshwater lakes, while the back nine is a Lowcountry links style course with holes placed among the propertys original rice fields.

Dye enlisted golf course architect Tim Liddy to help showcase his evolving vision in course architecture. The restoration includes renewing and re-contouring the greens, bunkers, and fairways, and installing state-of-the-art infrastructure improvements to drainage and irrigation. The restoration also promises to increase the environmental sensitivity of the course, surrounding areas, and the community as a whole.

When our clients are seeking out real estate in the Savannah, Georgia area, we recommend The Ford Plantation with the highest regard, said Schaffer. Their commitment to investment in amenities and infrastructure is unsurpassed, and the Pete Dye golf course renovation is a perfect example of that.

In addition to the Pete Dye golf course, The Ford Plantation 400-home equity club community features a full service club with outstanding events throughout the year, an on-site day spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, a deep-water marina on the Ogeechee River, a world-class equestrian center, an organic garden, and more than 10 miles of scenic horse, biking and hiking trails.
