Living in a Material World: The Importance of Building Deconstruction and Reuse Until recently, Chicago had more tear-downs than any other city in the U.S. While saving and reusing existing buildings is almost always the greenest option, there are options beyond a quick and dirty demolition for entire homes as well as interior renovations. Join preservation and sustainability consultant Carla Bruni to learn about the differences between demolition and deconstruction, why one should care about saving the materials used to build bungalows and other historic homes, and the financial incentives available to offset the cost of deconstruction.

Her presentation will include related building codes, structural and heating/cooling issues for new second floor spaces as well as considerations for bungalow aesthetics when altering the roof line of homes.
