A WEST Somerset-based scheme which provides a range of support for vulnerable people across the area has been shortlisted for a national award celebrating the best community projects.

Magna West Somerset Housing Associations community support services (CSS) was among those selected from almost 180 entries for the National Housing Federations Community Impact Awards.

The awards celebrate the difference that Englands housing associations make through creating opportunities and bringing communities together.

The CSS provides a range of support which is a one-stop shop for any vulnerable people across West Somerset, not just Magna tenants.

Support includes a gardener/handyman service, money matters advisors, meals on wheels service, home help service, careline service and traditional warden-style care.

The winner of the category will then join a national shortlist to decide who will go to the finals in London on June 12.

David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation, said: Weve had some fantastic submissions through for this years awards and the judges have had a tough job to do to select those shortlisted.

The community support service at Magna West Somerset Housing Association should feel very proud indeed it is no small feat to have made it this far.
