Plan for detours: major construction begins

Residents will need to plan around a major construction project taking place on East Teton Boulevard.

The project, costing $2.57 million, started Monday and encompasses the replacement of the street surface as well as curb, gutter and sidewalk installation from Monroe Avenue to Astle Avenue. Storm drains will also be placed as part of the improvement project. The money paying for the work comes from the sixth-penny tax approved in 2012 and is part of the citys first year of sixth-penny projects.

While the project was under discussion two weeks ago at the Green River City Council meeting, public works department employee Mark Westenskow told the council that only one side of the street is scheduled to receive a sidewalk placement. However, because the city received a good bid for the work, Westenskow says enough money may be left to for sidewalk placement for the other side of the street.

If things go well, we may be able to get some sidewalk on the other side, Westenskow said.

A number of city-owned facilities are located within the projects boundaries. Access to the citys public works building, recycling center, fire department training tower, animal control facility, rodeo arena and wastewater treatment facility will be impacted during the construction work, though detours will be available.

A detour through the Veterans Park on Monroe Ave. provides access to public works, rodeo arena, recycling center and training tower while an detour near the animal control building will lead to the horse corrals, waste water treatment facility, RV dump and the citys water salesman. Additionally, work will stop during the Overland State Stampede Rodeo, which takes place June 6 and 7.

Lewis and Lewis, the contractor for the project, has six months to complete the work, however a memo from the citys public works department states the project is expected to conclude in early July.
