From sodden sports fields to flooded homes, the heavy rains washing across the metro have left many messes behind. With more on the way, proactive prevention could be key to avoiding costly clean-up.

When Jenny came home from church on Sunday night, she never expected to find her carpet soaking wet.

"Went to the boys' playroom to play -- water all over the floor," she recalled. "So, we immediately stopped the presses, pulled the toys out and started over."

The family called in Jeff Rudek, of First Response Restoration. Using instruments to measure moisture, he found the source.

"It was from the excessive rain in the ground -- saturation," Rudek explained.

Although the sounds of raindrops may be soothing to some, Rudek hasn't been getting much sleep since the heavy rains swept in.

"Complete madness," he admitted. "My crews, when weather happens like this, it's non-stop."

From one end of the metro to the other, crews are cleaning up after the rain, which has caused lake levels to rise and even seep into the foundations of nearby houses.
