Spring is finally here! Youve been waiting for months to get outdoors and enjoy a nice spring day. Now that you have, you probably realize youve got some work to do, and not the enjoyable kind of spring yard work like planting flowers or building a cool backyard water feature.

This work is not as fun. Its cleaning gutters full of fall leaves, touching up spots where paints peeling, replacing loose or rotted boards on your deck, etc. It may try your patience but its just as important as blooming flowers if you want to keep your house looking nice.

Making a list

To make the work easier, start by creating a to-do list. Walk around the exterior of your home and inspect anything that might need to be repaired or replaced. Record these items and give them a priority rating so you know what you have to get done first.

A few things to look for:

Peeling paint

Loose gutter nails

Rotting trim

Loose porch rails

Rusty or otherwise damaged doors
