Monroeville Council will conduct a conditional-use hearing Tuesday on applications made by the Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple for construction projects and other changes to its property.

The temple would like to cut and fill nearly 25,000 cubic yards of earth near its current location along Abers Creek Road and construct a 13,410 square-foot, two-story building; a 1,466 square-foot addition; and a 264 square-foot connecting wing along with four gazebos. Additionally, it is asking to consolidate four plots of land into one, new 36.6-acre parcel.

The Monroeville Planning Commission has reviewed the proposals and recommended they be approved.

Monroeville solicitor Bruce Dice asked at Thursday night's council meeting that comments from the public be reserved for Tuesdays hearing.

Conditional use is different than a subdivision site plan, Mr. Dice said. A conditional use is an exception to zoning that would allow the property owner to use the land in a way that is not currently permitted in that particular district."

Temple members were in the audience for council's meeting.

The appropriate time to bring this to the municipality is Tuesday, Mr. Dice said.

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. and will be quasi-judicial in nature, Mr. Dice said.
