A NEW wooden floor has been unveiled at Hallgarth Community Centre in Kendal.

The work was undertaken by apprentices at South Lakes Housing, giving them an opportunity to learn new skills.

Funding has been achieved by a partnership of interested public bodies including Cumbria County Council (5,000), South Lakes Housing (1,000), Home Housing (1,000) and South Lakeland District Council (784), brought together by the Hallgarth Community Centre Management Committee.

The centre was built in 1994 and the original flooring was made up of dull grey chipboard panels which easily got scuffed. The new engineered flooring is made out of ash blocks.

Since the committee took on the running of the centre three years ago, it has made many improvements including a new boiler and exterior painting. The addition of the new flooring is the biggest project to date.
