MANILA - Veteran director Chito S. Roo admitted that he was hesitant at first to do a horror film with a male lead.

Roo is the director of upcoming film "Feng Shui" with Kris Aquino and Coco Martin.

"Ang hirap sa horror, you have to believe na may nangyayaring ganito," he said. "With Coco it's the first time I did a horror na may lalaki talaga. If you recall lahat ng horror ko ay puro babae ang bida. Before pa ako nag-aambisyon gumawa ng horror sa lalaki para maiba, pero ang lalaki kasi ay iba din, iba matakot, hindi sila tumitili."

Roo helmed several blockbuster horror films including "Sukob" with Aquino and Claudine Barretto, "T2" with Maricel Soriano and "The Healing" with Vilma Santos.

"With Coco he is a really good actor. Nahihirapan lang ako to translate him into a horror genre pero si Coco siya ang may gustong magkaroon ng horror genre. It was a challenge for us to put a leading actor para sa horror genre," Roo said.

Roo, who is working with Martin for the first time, admitted that he was really surprised with the actor's professionalism.

"I was not surprised that he was good pero nagulat ako kung gaano siya ka-professional sa trabaho. Kasi mapapansin mo ngayon sa industriya ang mga seryosong actor when they are on the set, they prepare at alam mong they are on top of the character, on top of the situation at kapag pinatawag mo ay prepared talaga. I really appreciate that," he said.

"Sabihin na natin not only was my expectation met but siguro he delivered more from the heart. Kasi you can feel the actor, it comes from the heart kasi ang hirap gumawa talaga ng horror," Roo said.

If given a chance, Roo said he is also open to direct Martin in a more dramatic project.
