WASHINGTON, Sept 21 A 42-year-old man was arrested on Friday evening in Washington DC after jumping the White House fences and making it past the front door.

Reuters reported that the man, identified as Omar Gonzalez, was carrying a 3- inch long folding knife when he climbed over the fences along Pennsylvania Avenue, ran to the North Portico entrance, a distance of about 70 yards, and turned the doors brass knob that allowed him to step in the White House vestibule.

According to the Washington Post, the front door on the North Portico, which is frequently used and just one flight of stairs away from the Obamas living quarters, was unlocked at the time of the breach.

After Gonzalez made it past the door, an officer standing post stopped him and subdued him.

USA Today reported that only minutes before the breach, Obama had boarded his helicopter on the South Lawn with his daughters for a weekend getaway to Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland.

On Saturday, a second man was arrested for trespassing at the White House. He approached the gates on foot first, but returned with his vehicle to another gate after being sent away by security. When he refused to leave he was arrested for unlawful entry, USA Today reported.
