A 24-year-old suspected shoplifter couldn't hide -- but he sure could run -- following an incident in Langley, B.C.

RCMP in the Vancouver suburb say the suspect jumped several ditches and at least four fences before he was arrested.

Mounties say they were waiting outside a store after being alerted to a man allegedly putting on clothes and wrapping other items in tin foil.

Cpl. Holly Marks says an officer chased the man over several streets and across a rugged rural area, through water and over fences, even grabbing him by the arm at one point but losing him again at the third fence when he peeled off one of the allegedly ill-gotten T-shirts.

The suspect was finally arrested by other officers ahead of the chase on Thursday.

Marks says Robert Duncan, of no fixed address, will appear in Surrey provincial court to face charges of theft under $5,000 and obstructing a peace officer.
