A typically competitive renewal over the Grand National fences. Chance Du Roy bids to repeat last year's victory off a 6lb higher mark but meets thirdMr Moonshineon better terms.Across The Baywas only eighth last year but handled the fences with aplomb and could get closer this time around, though jockey bookings would suggestKruzhlininis the stable's first choice.Mendip Expressis a grand staying type but is closely matched withAlfie Spinneron Cheltenham running last season. Nick Williams' charge keeps knocking on the door, though the long run-in here might not be in his favour as he often flatters to deceive.Balbrigganhas won four of his last five under NH Rules and couldn't be in better form whileHighland Lodgehas always looked an Aintree type. Andrew Thornton will have him up with the pace from the outset and he should give the weighing room's senior citizen a thrilling ride.Oscar Timewas fourth in the 2013 Grand National andBurton PortandShakalakaboomboomare other Aintree regulars whileLion Na BearnaiandGoonyellatravel over from Ireland.THE PACKAGEprobably didn't get home in the big one here in April but jumped soundly and is now 2lb lower than when third at the Cheltenham Festival in March. He's had a run to blow away the cobwebs and might be a bit of value today.

With three winners in the last six renewals, Paul Nicholls' launches a strong challenge running bothVibrato ValtatandIRISH SAINT. The former beat the re-opposingDunraven Stormwhen scoring at Cheltenham last month and should confirm running but Sam Twiston-Davies prefers the latter. The recent course and distance winner beat subsequent winner Chris Pea Green 10 lengths and collateral form just gives him the edge over the progressiveCourt Minstrel. Evan Williams' charge won nicely at Cheltenham last time and will be no pushover in this.

There is plenty of stamina in the pedigree ofMOUNTAIN KING(NAP) and he should relish this extra half-mile. He travelled strong for a long way in a Listed handicap at Ascot last month and is probably still on a decent mark.Secrete Streamreadily landed a gamble at Wetherby five weeks ago but has gone up 10lb since whileDawalannever looked happy over this trip at Haydock last time, though did keep on well for pressure.Nexiusis chasing a four-timer and is obviously improving butBear's AffairandTap Nightare probably better over fences nowadays.Wadswick Courtdid run the selection to a neck in February and the pair meet on similar terms today so he could go well if fully recovered from a fall here in October.

The Henderson yard is doubly represented butSnake Eyeshas disappointed so far andSweet Deal's winning run came to end behindLEVIATHANat Ascot last month. The latter has to confirm superiority on worse terms in this but Aidan Coleman could afford to ease him down and still win by three lengths last time and he gets the vote to go in again.Dormello Mois up 8lb for winning a lower grade event at Exeter butAmore Alatois not out of this if fully primed for his reappearance and is preferred to bothRuacanaandSleepy Haven.

Holywelllooked in need of the run at Carlisle last month and ran accordingly. He'll strip fitter here but his stable remain out of sorts and the seven-year-old tends to come good in the spring.Sam Winnerwas given an enterprising ride when making a winning reappearance at Cheltenham but may be on the up andMedermitis no slouch, though has never won beyond 2m4f.MA FILLEULEmade too many mistakes to get involved behind all-the-way winner Road To Riches in a Grade 1 at Down Royal on her reappearance but she's better than that. She can reverse Cheltenham running in March withHolywelland take this if jumping better today.

A high-class renewal and the ante-post betting hasGod's OwnandBalder Succesfighting this one out. The former came out best of that pair in last month's Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter but is 7lb worse off today - though the latter ran poorly on this card last year. Both will need to be at their best to get the better of last year's runner-upSOMERSBY(NAP), who found only Sire De Grugy too good on that occasion and once again in the Queen Mother Chase at Cheltenham in March. Mick Channon's chaser may prove a bit of value on that form.Dodging Bulletsis preferred to struggling stablemateHinterlandfor the Nicholl's yard but there is not much between him andOscar Whiskyon collateral form with Uxizandre. The remainder have some improving to do to get involved and that includes recent Haydock winnerThird Intention

Rebel Rebellionbattled to victory in this 12 months ago under Ryan Mahon off a 5lb lower mark. He could easily figure again given his experience over these obstacles.Champion CourtandHunt Ballhave the class to get involved and the latter looked comfortable over the fences in the Grand National in April before his stamina gave out. Sandown secondDolatulois another for the short-list but Cedre Bleu has more bad days than good andPersian Snowhad a rough passage in the Paddy Power at Cheltenham last month.Rolling Acesusually takes on stronger opposition and will appreciate the drop in grade but how he'll handle these fences is anybody's guess.WITNESS IN COURTcould be allowed to start at generous odds as he has his first start since disappointing at Stratford in May. But he likes soft ground and has gone well fresh in the past so gets the nod in a very open race.

Samstownhas been raised 10lb for a narrow-margin victory at Kelso and will need to improve again while last year's winnerThere's No Paniccan race off the same mark as when going close over 3m3f at Fontwell. But there is a suspicion both are best on faster ground andEMPEROR'S CHOICEcan take advantage. The latter never threatened the improving Gas Line Boy when second on his comeback at Haydock but should be sharper for the outing.Kasbadalihas a shout on his first start since March and is preferred toWhats Happening, who has yet to show any improvement for his slip down the weights.Tales Of Milanis up in class off a higher mark after winning at Doncaster last week andUpham Atomis another with something to prove in this grade.
