Guy Disney, who lost his right leg below the knee while serving in Afghanistan, finished a creditable third in Friday afternoons Royal Artillery Gold Cup at Sandown but the amateur jockeys reaction was as remarkable as his achievement.

Disney, a captain in the army, had just become the first jockey to ride in Britain with a prosthetic leg.

But after he returned on Tom George-trained gelding, Disney denied what he had done was inspirational, adding: Plenty of people have done it.
