The Napa City Council approved a contract totaling $447,800 on Tuesday for the remodeling of 17 apartments at Laurel Manor Senior Apartments on Laurel Street.

The low bidder, Bayview Painting and Construction of Burlingame, will install new kitchens, bathrooms, flooring and doors as well as repair drywall and paint.

Previously, a contract was awarded for the removal of asbestos and the installation of central heating and air conditioning.

The city is in the process of renovating all 50 residences at Laurel Manor, which is managed by the citys Housing Authority.

All units have already received new concrete patios and redwood fences, as well as new windows, patio doors and upgraded electrical panels.

All work has been completed on 14 units. The new phase, comprising 17 units, should be finished by June, the city estimated.

The total budget for this latest work is $492,580, including construction contingencies. The money comes from rents paid by residents.
