A major construction project on Boonton Avenue is expected to stifle area traffic this week, police announced. Work will being Tuesday.

The street will be repaved between Main Street and Sheep Hill Road. Work is expected to occur between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. until the project ends on Friday.

Boonton Avenue will be closed while is work in both directions from Main Street to Wootton Street and, at times, the entire length of Sheep Hill Road.

Motorists should use an alternate route if possible, such as Route 287.

Emergency parking regulations will be in effect for the duration of the project. The Boonton Avenue parking lot near Main Street will be closed Tuesday and Thursday form 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; vehicles must be removed from the lot before work commences or they risk being in the lot for the duration of the project.

Residents who park in a privately-owned driveway should plan on parking their vehicles on a nearby street.

Police personnel will be on scene during the project and will help residents who need to park find a space.
