O'Neal Road paving schedule set

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) -

It's been months since repair work began on O'Neal Road, and according to residents, not much has improved.

Work began in the spring as part of a contract that called for repairs on multiple streets in the area. Density testing began Friday in hopes to get repairs rolling. But, residents are saying it's past time for the city of Gulfport to do something about the paving issue.

"The city could have taken care of this really quick if they wanted to," said Khari Enkosi, who lives in the Tracewood subdivision, just off O'Neal Road.

He and several of his neighbors have been in constant contact with the city. They're tired of the dirt and grime that has now become a norm for the neighborhood.

"I haven't washed my car since they started because when you come down this road, it's a dust cloud," said Enkosi.

The city did come out and patch some of the holes a couple of weeks ago, but, according to Enkosi, it didn't help much.

Kevin Flowers has lived in the area for 50 years.

"I moved out here when it was first dirt, and it was in better shape than what it is now," said Flowers.

Even though the road is no longer closed to traffic, he is having to turn around to avoid suspension damage on his truck and boat trailer.
