More charges filed against paving contractor

BRISTOL A New Britain paving contractor arrested earlier on charges of scamming clients is being held on bond on charges that he has continued to prey on the elderly.

Brian Curylo, 28, of 41 Pleasant St., faces new charges that he forged several checks totaling more then $3,300 from two elderly clients.

In one of the cases, police said, in late August, Curylo allegedly told an 83-year-old woman with vision problems that he would seal a crack in her driveway for $25. When the woman had trouble writing him the check, he offered to fill it out, but made it out for $850, according to his arrest warrant.

Before that, on Aug. 22, the warrant said, he stole five blank checks from a client who reportedly had dementia. The checks were later cashed between Aug. 22 and Sept. 8, for a total of $2,475.

The elderly client told police Curylo must have taken the checks when he allowed him into his home.

Curylo was arrested in connection with the incidents earlier this month and charged with offering home repairs without a license, second-degree larceny, third-degree larceny and seven counts of third-degree forgery.

At his arraignment on Monday in Bristol Superior Court, he pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Police previously said they had received numerous complaints about Curylo not finishing driveway work he had promised to do under the name of his New Britain company, Hot Top Paving.
