MAURY COUNTY, Tenn. -

Maury County deputies are warning elderly residents of a driveway scam artist that may be in the area.

Seventy-four-year-old Eleanor Houge and her 83-year-old husband are among the victims taken advantage of by 21-year-old Johnny Wells.

The elderly couple paid nearly $2,000 for a driveway paving job that was not done correctly.

"He got all finished and told me the price and I said I had no idea that it would be that much," she said.

Eleanor told Nashville's News 2 Investigates Wells was a fast talker and very persuasive in his sales pitch.

"He came up here and he was very persuasive," she said.

According to investigators, Wells used a fake name on the contract and then misspelled the same name on a business card he left behind at the Houge's home.

Eleanor said she has since called the company several times, but has never received an answer.

She also told Nashville's News 2 Investigates that the Nashville Better Business Bureau does not have a record of the company on file.
