A Topeka demolition derby has come crashing to the forefront in its field.

The Nashville-based Demolition Derby League announced this week that the Blizzard Bash held each November at Topekas Kansas Expocentre has been selected as the 2014 Best Demolition Derby in the World.

The league, a volunteer organization that serves to promote all types of combative, motorized sports, said in a news release that it presents the Best Demolition Derby award to the combative motorsports event that most captures the thrill, excitement and sportsmanship associated with the world of demolition derby.

The news release said 352 events in 13 countries were nominated for the award while 12,217 people were involved in the selection process, which took place in December.

The league put out a top 10 list that included:

1. Topekas annual Blizzard Bash, which was held for the fifth time last November at the Expocentres Landon Arena and plans to continue this coming November.

2. The Fall Brawl in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada.

3. The Bash For Cash at Washington Courthouse, Ohio.

4. The Keystone Nationals at Brookville, Penn.

5. The Winter Slam at Garden City, Minn.
