Demolition of the Plaza Building at 100 N. Bridge St. in downtown Chippewa Falls is scheduled to begin the week of Feb. 23.

Daryl Wojcik of No Mercy Excavating, the company contracted with the project, said that most of the building will remain standing until next month. Workers will start tearing down the western-most section of the building that is closest to Spring Street Sports.

Before that can happen though, the westbound lane on Spring Street will be closed for a few hours while the stuccoed portion of the building that hangs over the sidewalk is removed. After that, Spring Street will be open again.

Wojcik didnt give an exact date for this portion of the project.

The real demolition doesnt begin until March 9. Then, portions of Bridge and Spring streets could be closed for several days.

Obviously there is going to be some inconvenience but were trying to keep that to a minimum, said City Planner Jayson Smith.

Im thinking three days to do it, Wojcik said. Hopefully quicker.

Bridge Street will be closed from Spring to Central streets and Spring Street will be closed from Bridge Street to the parking lot just east of the Village Tavern on the north side of the road.

Traffic will be able to turn right onto Spring Street from Bridge Street during the demolition.

Southbound traffic on Bridge Street will be directed west on Central Street and then south on Bay Street. Northbound traffic will be directed to Rushman Drive.
