Community Mercy Health Partners is preparing to demolish the former mental health services building, but uncertainty remains on the future of the Springfield Regional Imaging Center.

CMHP spokesman Dave Lamb said plans are in place to begin removing asbestos from the mental health facility in the next few months.

He said demolition on the building will likely begin next year.

The announcement came after Clark County commissioners said CMHP officials asked the county to fund the demolition of buildings at 1343 and 1345 N. Fountain Blvd. But commissioners voted instead to terminate an ongoing lease on the properties for $1.

Were giving them the property and in exchange they will be responsible for tearing down the buildings, Commissioner John Detrick said.

Officials say they are still working on redevelopment possibilities for the North Fountain Avenue site.

The possible demolition is the latest in a series of moves that have come as CMHP has consolidated properties downtown from throughout the city.

A previous tenant on North Fountain, Mental Health Services for Clark and Madison Counties, relocated to 474 N. Yellow Springs St., across from Springfield Regional Medical Center downtown, in June of 2013.

The $10 million, 31,000-square-foot mental health facility offers in-patient and out-patient services.

For the hospital systems other former hospital site, Community Hospital on East High Street, demolition is almost completed. It began in February 2013.
