The timetable for demolition of the ABC cinema site has been revealed exclusively to the Courier.

There will be a three month schedule of work on the towns ugliest eyesore, starting on July 14..

Developer Bellhouse Joseph, which owns the site with equity firm The Carlyle Group, unveiled the plan to the Courier on Wednesday.

It also said it had hired leading UK contractors Sir Robert McAlpine and national demolition contractor Keltbray to carry out the work.

Bellhouse Josephs chairman Ed Bellhouse also revealed negotiations with Waitrose which had been going on for two-and-a-half years had collapsed last week.

He said Waitrose had wanted to drive down the rent to a level which would make the proposition economically unviable.

Waitrose told the Courier it was down to property elements that can influence the viability of a scheme, such as scheme costs, parking, layout and the challenging market conditions retailers face.
