Manila, Philippines The Liberal Party (LP) yesterday brushed off the attempts to link party stalwarts President Benigno S. Aquino III and Senate President Franklin Drilon to suspected pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles as an obvious demolition job.

LP Secretary-General Mel Senen Sarmiento said that linking Aquino and Drilon to the supposed multi-billion pork scam mastermind defies logic and is an act of desperation to undermine the governments effort in resolving the mind-boggling corruption issue.

They should not forget that it is this administration which is now moving heaven and earth to get into the bottom of these shocking stories of corruption involving the abuse and misuse of pork barrel funds, Sarmiento said.

The Samar congressman likewise reminded their critics it was the current administration that finally decided to abolish the pork barrel once and for all, although the operational word abolish would be subjected to debate for Minority members.

The objective is to turn this P10-billion Napoles pork barrel scam from being a corruption issue to a political case by diverting the attention of the public from the real culprits who misused the pork barrel system and pocketed millions and millions of public funds. What they dont realize is that this issue is now above and beyond politics, said Sarmiento.

This investigation into the PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Fund) scam would have not become possible without the Presidents support, he added.

Demolition Job

The solon called the moves to associate Aquino and Drilon two of the three most powerful officials of the country in the pork barrel mess based on pictures that went viral over the Internet as nothing but a demolition job.

Sarmiento said that photographs merely showing President Aquino and Drilon in the company of members of the Napoles family does not mean anything especially at this day and age when almost everyone has mobile phones that are also equipped with cameras.
