New Delhi, April 26 -- The North and East Delhi municipal corporations on Thursday cracked the whip against illegal constructions by launching demolition and sealing drives in Rohini, Narela and Shahdara (South) Zones.

In Rohini under the North civic body, illegal portions of seven properties faced the hammer, while in Narela, 24 properties faced the wrath of the bulldozers and one was sealed. In East Delhi's Shahdara (South) zone, six buildings were sealed and 21 illegal constructions razed.

The building departments of the respective zones of the two corporations carried out the demolition drive with the help of the local police.

"The building mafia have been carrying out rampant construction in several parts of the city. This is a crackdown against them. We have demolished various unauthorised parts of buildings and are going to intensify our drive in the near future," a senior corporation official said.

On Tuesday, too, a demolition squad of the North civic body had pulled down illegal structures in the City.

"Illegal constructions have been carried out without sanctions from the authorities. We have served notices and will continue our drives," an official said.
