A DEMOLITION order for Tunbridge Wells' most prominenteyesore has been issued.

At a meeting this evening borough council leader David Jukes revealed an order under the Building Act 1984 to force the demolition of the former ABC cinema.

The site has been derelict for more than 12 years and the current owners have insisted they will not knock down the existing building until they have secured an agreement with a supermarket to open there.

The Courier is currently runningthe Action on Cinema Site campaign, lobbying the owners to find a solution now.

Speaking at the full council meeting Mr Jukes said: "It has taken us 12 years but this is the best step."
