Interior demolition is under way at West Manchester Mall, and developers expect the revamped shopping hub to be ready for the holiday season.

Soon the 32-year-old enclosed mall at 1800 Loucks Road will be revamped into a new, outdoor plaza with outward-facing storefronts.

Interior demolition began last week as plans for a $47 million redevelopment moved toward fruition, said Tony Ruggeri, co-founder of Dallas-based M&R Investors.

The Texas firm is close to making a major announcement about the property, he said, but he declined further comment.

"I'm pleased with where we are and extremely happy with the level of interest in the mall," Ruggeri said.

Kay Jewelers is the latest retailer to eye the new West Manchester Town Center.

The Akron, Ohio-based jewelry store had a shop in the old mall and has submitted plans to West Manchester Township to open a location at the revamped shopping plaza, said Monica Love, township zoning officer.

Kay Jewelers also has nearby locations at the York Galleria and North Hanover Mall.

It's the fourth retailer to submit plans to the township, though officials have received questions from several more interested retailers, Love said.

Along with the anchors Kohl's, Macy's, Regal Cinemas and Walmart Ann Taylor Loft, Kirkland's and Petco have also signed on to have shops at the new mall.
